I like the Hot page even less than the Trending page, although posts of mine made it on both at occasions (I know the Steem retrospective made it to trending, after a dozen or more other posts).

Hot page is based on receiving quick votes and interactions (enough to make it on Hot). Auto-votes from big players are the key words here, generally. A post will only stay up the hot page for a max of a few hours, regardless of the votes and interactions it gets.

To be honest, I almost never check the trending page on Steemit because most of the content is almost useless.

I wouldn't say useless, but the content I'm interested in is most often on my feed. Trending or Hot rarely offer me something insightful beyond the feed, that is also in my area of interests.
