Quetta CITY
Quetta is the capital of province of Balochistan in Pakistan. the word Quetta comes from "Kwetta" meaing "fort" in the Pahtu Language. It is surrounded by hills on all sides. The encircling hills are Chiltan, Takatoo, Murdar and Zarghoon. Quetta is situated at the altitude of about 1700 meters above sea level. It is the largest city of Balochistan province by population.
Quetta lies at the end of famous Bolan Pass. It has the population of about 759941 people. The population consists of Baloch, Pashtoons, Brahavis including Punjabis hazaras and sindhis.
The climate of Quetta city is dry. It is very cold in winter and the temperature falls below freezing point. There is an occasional snowfall in winter. The people keep their houses warm with coal-stoves and gas heaters in winter season.
Quetta is called the valley of fruits, Pomegranates, grapes, peaches, apricots and plums are grown. Almonds and other dry fruits are also seen in plenty. There are many orchards in Kuchlak, Hanna and Mustung. These places are not very far from Quetta.
Quetta has many famous buildings and educational institutions. Command and staff college, University of Balochistan, Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University Medical college, Television station, and Iqra University are well known.
There are picnic spot like hanna lake, Urak and Askari Park where people visit specially in summer and enjoy themselves.
The people are known for their friendliness and hospitality.
