Being strict as a parent normally should mean that, one does not allow for frivolities from his child(ren). This is not to say such a child should not play, have fun or mingle with peers. However, cutting excesses that do not necessarily add value to the child.

Now, being too strict entails depriving a child all the rights and opportunities to actually experience childhood like mingling with peers and having fun.

This is disadvantageous as it could hamper the child's social life.

Also, for such children, they tend to misbehave whenever they get the slightest opportunity our of their parents hold which is also not good.

In essence, a balance should be struck in being strict.

You have said the correct word: balance. I think we should leave space for children to have fun as children but always under the supervision of parents, and definitely say NO when the issue does not help them to be better people or to enjoy life healthy. Excesses, ALL are prohibited.
