Why do some people hate being told the truth?

It's simple. Nobody wants to be hurt. The truth hurts. There are many times I have hidden the truth from people simply because I do not want to hurt them.
Telling them the truth most times hurt so they would rather not know the truth. And you know the saying, "What you don't know cannot hurt or kill you", so people prefer being in the dark to being in the light of the truth.
I have heard people say, please don't tell me the truth if it's gonna hurt me.
Because they are not receiving enough positive feed back.
