as far as I know if you downvote a bad post early then everyone else also downvotes it then your voting influence goes up, but if you downvote something that everyone else upvotes then your influence will go down
What exactly do you mean by "voting influence"?
how much money casting your vote gives, how accurate of a voter you are... it makes sense that if you vote opposite to everyone one else that your votes would be deemed less accurate and be worth less over time
