Honeywell Bring Quantum Computing

in #quantum4 years ago

Honeywell, a company most known for its operations within the building technologies sector has made a splash with its announcement of their quantum computer, otherwise known as H1. Featuring 10 qubits, their approach uses trapped-ion which Allows suspension of charges in free space visa electromagnetism. While we expected companies such as Google, IBM and other tech firms to continue progression with quantum computing, Honeywell is one of the first businesses to reveal how it wishes to utilise quantum computing in its existing business streams.

Quantum computing in the building control sector would allow for advanced fault and error detection, perhaps utilising data inputs far more efficiently than any other existing building control system. Honeywell are investing into the future of their existing business lines by developing their own quantum computing capabilities to power their forthcoming monitoring solutions. Perhaps this early mover advantage will help them to retain and grow their client base as they achieve more advanced monitoring systems. How well this scales in the future remains to be seen but it’s an interesting and smart move from the company. Their proposed tiered subscription system that will allow customers to adjust their spending based on computing and monitoring needs.

I feel that companies that rely on technology as their main source of business will need to pay great attention to coming age of quantum computing. It isn’t every day that a new realm of computing capabilities dawns on society and just as Tesla have held a firm grip with its early approach to EVs and other fields, the same opportunities will present itself with quantum computing. Other sectors will need to realise the importance of quantum computing in the coming years and assess their own capabilities and goals for next decade as they strategically approach new demands as computing capabilities and applications come to light.
