I saw an article that IBM have created a prototype that has 50 Qubits, this will put IBM in the lead of the quantum computing race. I wasn't expecting to see quantum computing progress this quickly. Last I remember reading about Quantum computing it was just in double figure Qubits. How long before we reach 100 Qubits?



The question I have is that once things progress to this level or beyond, and any various bugs have been ironed out, will the company that built it release the power to the people?

Or, will it just be for "paying" customers like governments and financial institutions? If that is the case will be in "1984" at that point?
