A Tribute To The Punchline - Please Follow This Guy's Lead!

On behalf of many of us in the comedy community, this is a thank you to a great leader, @punchline.

Previously unseen footage of him joining Steemit last November.

The biggest reason I've stuck with blogging on Steemit is because of this person's generosity, engagement, and encouragement.

Potentially George Carlin (who never died and is living off the grid), they've single-handedly given many of us a damn good reason to post every day.

This person gets the bigger picture of what Steemit is all about lets their actions prove it. This is a welcome relief when so many leaders allow politics and greed to blind them, which discourages those with strong ethics and values.

So many new people have started contributing to the punchline/comedy niche because it's overflowing with positive reinforcement. There are no conditions, no rules, no games, and no expectations. If you write a good punchline post (or are trying), he'll find, acknowledge, reward, and promote it.

My typical reaction when I see that he's caught my post:

Above and beyond, if you come up with your own comedy contest, you'll immediately see positive feedback, and then his name in your wallet with STEEM to boost to your prize pool. What's even more impressive, is that he often sends more STEEM for you to keep (for the idea), and more to give away. No strings attached, ever.

Using the rewards pool and personal funds to help others first, the way I've always felt it should be, is great to see and experience. It doesn't get any better.

If only more Steemians treated their own communities this way, we'd see a huge spike in retention and continued adoption. The obvious positive network effect on the comedy community is a great example to follow.

A few more bits on @punchline:

  • [x] Built out their own tag(s) from scratch.
  • [x] Recruited, engages and rewards virtually all using his tags.
  • [x] Upvoted the authors he follows a whopping 50%-65%.
  • [x] Writes a daily "What's So Funny?" blog post listing all of the jokes he's upvoted to promote.
  • [x] Built a badass curation trail that generously upvotes posts linked in his daily list.

Da' Original Trail (Thank you!!):

Look at the magic that comes in once a day... something to look forward to:

While I don't want to get too wordy here, the main point is that @punchline's organic growth model is brilliant and successful. It's inspired me to keep going and continue to give out of my own pocket for the daily fitness blog community I'm trying to build every day.

There's also no coincidence that @idikuci and @dj123 started @comedyopenmic for the community with their own funds, two people heavily involved in the #punchline/#comedy/#funny niches.

If only more people could learn from this example and to help others around them, Steemit would be a far greater place.

If you don't follow this guy already, please do. If you have interest in writing some punchline comedy content, give it a shot and you'll be glad you did.

First of all, thank you. I am humbled and honored by your kind words.

Second, please don't gloss over the fact that you are an incredibly positive force here. Not only are you funny but your faith in humanity posts were a shot in the arm for many people on this platform.

I am so happy you wrote about "positive reinforcement". If I had a Rabbit of Caerbannog with big sharp pointy teeth I would force everyone to stop flagging and use positive reinforcement to shape this place into something we can all be proud of. Since I don't I'll just keep voting for What's so funny every day.

Finally, I need help. I need people to comment in my posts with the names of other funny people contributing to short form humor under the #punchline tag.

You are awesome. Keep being awesome!

I'm glad that matty stepped up and honoured you like this. You really are deserving of more recognition for the great work you're doing for comedy. Ever since you showed up the #funny and #punchline people haven't been the same.

Hope you keep going for as long as possible.

Thanks for the kind words, but this has been a team effort for sure. There are so many good people here. There were already plenty of funny people. My goal was to light a spark and try and help unite them. @traf had already started this. Thanks to @surfyogi we were able to take it up a notch. Then community members like you and everyone working on comedyopenmic took it even further.

But the real credit goes to all of the community members who have stayed dedicated to posting funny content no matter where the price has been. And this is only the beginning!

@punchline, dude honestly, one of the things that I brag about every day is your endorsement, an encouragement that along with @comedyopenmic's existence I'd have been long gone from steemit. a great role model in both comedy and human perspectives, along with -@steemwizards, @beerbloke, @steemship, @lordvader, @calypso, @brahma have played a big part of bringing a smile and hope into an Iraqi's heart, so thank you from the bottom of my heart!

This is a great tribute @steemmatt.
Punchline is actually Ned without the toupee
But thanks @punchline for giving encouragement and herpes to the Comedy community. We have to remember you for medical reasons.

Thanks a lot for spreading the "word" with your resteem.

I will upvote and resteem your last blog post free to my 35,000+ followers if you reply with the word, "free".
