Punam Raut (Indian cricketer and opener) plays for the women’s international cricket team. Raut was a key part of Mumbai Railways' women’s team. The stylish battel is particularly known for playing long innings. She has played in all three sports. Punam made an ODI debut in 2009 and has been playing for the countryside ever since.

One of her finest innings came against South Africa. Deepti Sharma and she put up a 300 run opening partnership, becoming the first pair to achieve this feat.

Early Days

Punam was conceived in a Prabhadevi temple in Mumbai. Punam had a passion for cricket and deep affection. It was her passion that Punam decided to dedicate herself full-time to the sport. Ganesh Raut her father was a car driver. Her family had limited resources. Ganesh was blessed with good fortune when his American boss gave him Rs. It was 10,000, which is a lot at that point. Punam got a new outfit, shoes, cricket kit, and equipment. Ganesh even signed Punam up for Shiv Seva Sports Club. It was a cricket school that was managed by Sanjay Gaidonde.

Ganesh, to this day, acknowledges his boss's contribution and even states that

An Unprecedented Incident

A shocking incident occurred in 2004 when Punam’s mother suddenly died. The entire Raut household was overcome with grief. Punam did however go through her first-ever cricket trials. Ganesh took Punam along to the trials. Ganesh encouraged her to continue playing her game and to only focus on the task at hand.

It was the result that Punam was selected both for the Mumbai U14 (and U19) events. There was no looking forward.

Prime Years

Punam was a member of the Railways team. In 2009, Punam made her debut for India's national team. She has been an integral player in the opening position for India and is now a regular. Here are some of the most memorable moments in India's Women's ODI.

South Africa's Women's Qurangular Series


Deepti Singh and Punam Raut made history when they became the first pair of women's ODI cricketers to team up for a partnership of 300 runs. They set the record at South Africa's Women's Quadrangular Series league match. They scored 320 runs and took just 45.3 overs to take their first wicket. It was the first time in history that a Women’sODI pair had scored more than 300 runs. Raut's injury prevented them from extending their partnership. Raut had to be forced to retire from the innings. But she managed to score her highest ODI run of 109*.

2018 ICC Women's World Cup England


Punam Raut's finest series performance came at the 2018 Women's World Cup. Here she played some consistent knocks throughout her career.

She scored an essential 86 runs against England in the first match, leading the team to a quick 7-wicket victory with 45 balls remaining. Raut continued her run of scoring. In a low scoring match against Pakistan, Raut scored a critical 47-runs. India won with 169 runs. But, they defeated their neighbors comfortably and sent the Pakistan team for only 74 runs.

The match against Australia was her best, scoring 106 runs. But her run was not enough as the team lost the match 8 wickets to Australia.

Raut was in control of the final. India had scored 228 runs against the hosts. To overcome the challenging total they needed a strong partnership. Raut was always ready to deliver. Raut scored an impressive knock of 86-runs in England, which provided a solid foundation for her side. The visitors failed to score the target after a defeat in the middle. She was the best scorer of the match.

Playing style


Punam's USP as a hitter is her ability of playing for long periods of time. She has scored 10 1/2 centuries and two centuries to prove this point. Punam also has a healthy 32-year-old average. She likes playing safe, building partnerships, and then passing on the batton towards the end to the big-hitters.
