Whitefish Contract... Something Smells Fishy

in #puertorico7 years ago (edited)

If it swims like a fish, smells like a fish and looks like a fish, well it's most likely a fish. In regards to the Whitefish deal, everything about it points to something fishy going on behind the scenes.

$300 million dollars, a contract to fix Puerto Rico's electrical grid for $300,000,000 USD has been awarded to Whitefish Energy Holdings, a small.. no, tiny.. wait, a spec of a company which reported having only two full time employees at the time that Hurricane Maria passed through Puerto Rico.

But if the size of this company isn't enough to raise an eyebrow (at this point both of mine are raised) then what about the actual work they will be doing in Puerto Rico? Well, what work will they be doing in Puerto Rico? Aside from contracting the real service providers; of which PREPA (the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority) could have done on its own, there is much of nothing they could be doing in Puerto Rico but taking on the role of a well rewarded middleman which subcontacts out to real providers.

If thats not jaw dropping well how about this. On page 27 of 34, article 59 of the contract titled Access to Records it reads "In no event shall PREPA, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the FEMA Administrator, the Comptroller General of the United States, or any authorized representatives have the right to audit or review the cost and profit elements of the labor rates specified within."

What!? In other words, they seek immunity from a shady deal that shouldn't have occurred in the first place.

What does PREPA think about this? PREPA spokesman Carlos Monroig Aceveda told weather.com that “It is reprehensible that shameless profiteering is going on literally on the back of the devastated people of Puerto Rico. It is beyond contempt and people should answer for it.”

This is colonialism at a low point, profits over the people and it's appalling!

But for some it's simply the art of the deal. So what about this deal, any insiders involved? Obviously, but I'll direct you to an investigation done by The Daily Beast which highlights how a "tiny utility company that is primarily financed by a private-equity firm founded and run by a man who contributed large sums of money to President Trump" https://www.thedailybeast.com/dollar300m-puerto-rico-recovery-contract-awarded-to-tiny-utility-company-linked-to-major-trump-donor

We must call this what it is, a corrupt and shady deal that only adds to the disaster caused after the storm. We must investigate, expose and oppose an atmosphere of corruption that existed prior to Hurricane Maria and which hovers over the island at this time.

Rebuild & defend!

Puerto Rico se levantara!

Pa'lante!
