You do need a good editor. I had one for my story on Pulpternative. Opened my eyes to a few things. If there are 2 things you do need to spend money on when publishing your own book, one is the book image, lets face it, it's what attracts the punters and the other is a good editor.
Completely agree! The front cover is what draws me to a new book. And my editor— she pointed out that my main "problem" was that I wrote a bit too much in passive voice, which she dubbed as perhaps my style of writing. I reread my novel, specifically looking to change passive voice to active voice. Definitely opened my eyes!
