Ice coming off a tractor trailer went through my car!

This is what happens when a tractor trailer doesn't clean off their trucks. I met this truck on a two lane highway. Please be careful and watchful when you are out in the winter. This happened several years ago and the hood was sticking straight up before the tow truck arrived. This was a sheet of ice that lifted off the trailer the size of the hood of that car, and 8 inches thick! Motor was still running!

Sort:

I give the truckers a lot of room and I don't follow them in winter. This could have killed you! Scary!

Looks kinda like a meat cleaver did it in!!

looks like you got stepped on...

Wow that's scary, hope no one got hurt!

I was very lucky, I did get sort of a scalp job on part of my head. Lots of glass in my face. The chunk of ice was the size of the hood of my car. What truly was a blessing was that I didn't have anyone with me. 330.jpg

It flatten that passengers seat. And the following picture is what the head rest look like afterward.

How would you suggest that the truck driver clean the ice off?

Why not use a shovel, like everyone else?
Why should road users risk death, because a trucker is too lazy to make sure his vehicle is safe to take out on the road?
Moistyboo could have been killed...

how's he gonna use a shovel?
the roof of the trailer is thirteen foot above the pavement?

They have these things called ladders. The trucker is responsible for the safety of his vehicle, not other road users. Would it be OK if it were an unsecured load? No. Same thing applies.
An unsafe vehicle is an unsafe vehicle. As a professional driver, he should know better.

Hey Codge... maybe the ladder BLEW AWAY!! hahahaha

where's he gonna get the ladder?
Note: I've been to several thousand truckstops. I never saw a ladder for sale or rent.
or shovels for that matter.
I've never seen a truck that pulled a van (the trailer type in question) that was set up to carry ladder. (or a shovel)

Well, this was a small trucking company, but I've been told by many of the bigger trucking companies, their trucks are not allowed of the yard until they have been inspected they have mirrors to check the tops of the trailers.

fun fact: the typical lazy trucker works seventy hours a week. At the end of the day they don't go home...they sleep in their truck. They don't have ROOM for shovels and ladders.

Fun fact two: trucking in the USA is one of the tenth most dangerous occupations. (Cops aren't even close). The most typical injury they receive (and cause of death) is falling off their truck.
