What’s the Fear? How to Overcome It?

in #psychology8 years ago

Fear is one of the strongest emotions. The child likes to jump up and down from somewhere. In fact, kids like it! The height is not important for them. Children haven’t got such emotion as fear because they have no experience in it.

We learn to assess the degree of the risk with aging, and the fear becomes like a protective function of our organism. In this case, the fear is even useful as our intuition appears through it, and this is the best sense of self-preservation.

The fear doesn’t come alone. It’s often linked with other feelings. The man can hardly see some secondary feelings as the emotion of fear is so strong.

In order to analyze that emotion, which comes with the fear, we can understand the main cause of our fear and recognize what exactly intuition wants to say to us.

You should always try to listen to yourself even if it seems that the fear appears spontaneously. It’s possible that you’ll feel something else and it will give you a clue - why you are so anxious person.

That’s why it is very important to pay attention to the topic of managing our own fears. You should learn to listen to it and try to have a dialogue.

It is necessary to take a close look at your fears. You can change the point of view of all situations. Try to look at your problem through the eyes of another person.

And then, ask yourself to what extent the prerequisites for your fears are objective. Maybe, your fears are caused by the lack of self-confidence?

The fear of uncertainty is one of the most significant varieties of phobias. Let us see which kinds of this fear there are and what you can do.

1. You had some negative experience in the past that associates now with your prospects at present.

Your previous experience cannot be the exact analogue of the current one. Life never goes in a circle. Every evolution is a spiral: some similarity between a situation and circumstances does not have to contain an element of negativity. Your experience gave you an opportunity to go through definite situations and become stronger.

2. You are afraid of society’s reaction to your actions.

Are you really condemned so often? Analyze your experience. How many times did you act at random and how often did you court censure and disapproval? Compare the results. Look at the situation from the outside. Imagine that the action you are frightened to take should be performed by another person, not by you. Now answer the question: “How much are you interested in that person and the actions he or she is performing?” You will see, most people mind their own business only; they do not care about you.

3. You are afraid of your inability to overcome possible obstacles in the future.

Turn back to your original plan. Try to consider every step of it both emotionally and logically. Which one gives you a feeling of ambivalence and unpredictability? It is your fear that makes you to reconsider every stage of your supposed actions again and again.

4. You are afraid because you do not have personal experience in a specific matter and your imagination pictures you the scariest scenario.

Do not you think that your phobias are blown upon by your enemies or those who try to project their own problems on you? Your fear could become a kind of a signal that you should revise the relationships with people around you and try to avoid any information that has a destructive influence on a psyche.

With starting an affair or getting a task by the authorities we usually feel a mix of excitement and dread that can be interpreted as a kind of a tremor appearing with the performing of something important. Such feelings encourage our intuition to work as the only thing that is able to help with choosing the optimal variant of problem’s solving.

In this case the growing feeling of fear could become a clue to the realization that the chosen tactics is wrong. But when we are involved in the result and ignore this touch of fear or try to explain ourselves logically that we work the only possible way, then at some moment the fear starts growing and could turn into a panic.

As any other emotion fear could be a manifestation of your intuition. In fact, fear is a hint at the necessity to pull oneself together. It can be determined by both inner and outer reasons. But in any case fear is quite constructive.

Most people know the feeling of fear and excitement on the eve of an important event. For example, it could be a final examination or matriculation, a defense of a thesis or a dissertation.

It is interesting that fear is connected with such individual psychological feature of a person as a self-evaluation. The point is that human being is always afraid of stuff he or she is not ready for. People with a poor self-image are often not ready to their own success; in the contrary, those who are more confident are scared by failures.

Do not be afraid to overcome your fear. It will always find incontestable arguments. You had better get to find the causes of its appearing. Initiate the dialogue with your fear. Make it talk to you and try to play the leading role in your conversation. Ask your phobia: “What am I afraid of the most?” and suggest answers to the question. Listen to your own feelings. And then the fear will reveal the reasons. The knowing of the reasons is the significant step on the way of its deliverance.
