Weekend Musings - Resistance The Opposite of Acceptance

Acceptance is the act of loving
all aspects of yourself
and dropping all expectations
of the way you think something “should” be.


Accepting and loving yourself? Then dropping all your expectations? Yep, that's what I wrote. When you read that statement, was there anything that jumped up to the forefront of your mind? If by chance something did, this may just be an area that your sub-conscious mind is asking you for a little self-examination.

We all benefit from some serious soul searching from time to time, it really allows us to better understand why we act or think in a particular way. If you really get down to the nitty-gritty you know that how you are is a direct result of learned behavior from parents and society in general.

Questions to ask yourself


  • Are you holding too tightly to an opinion? (closed minded)
  • Do you believe you will have a certain characteristic trait your entire life? (ex. shyness)
  • Are you afraid to express yourself for fear of being judged by others?
  • Are you critical of yourself and your accomplishments or perhaps lack of?
  • Do you experience bouts of frustration, anger or anxiety?
  • Do you feel stuck in a rut, depressed or unsure of your future happiness?

These are just a few questions that come to mind off the top of my head to get you thinking. I would like to inspire you to think about why you look at situations the way you do.

Letting Go


Resistance is the opposite of Acceptance. Often one does not realize that when you find yourself resisting a particular aspect of your personality, it actually causes that to become a more prominent issue for you. It is a general law of the Universe called the Law of Attraction. Another term you may have always heard said is, what you put out is what you get back. Here is another oldie but goodie... If you spot it, you got it!

They all represent pretty much the same thing. Learned behavior and old habits are hard to break. Especially thoughts about yourself, these can be the hardest to change. Resisting something about yourself actually will keep you in a continual loop of repetitive thoughts and behavior patterns. Are you ready to make a difference in how you look at yourself?

Letting go of resistance begins with you "accepting" yourself in all areas of your life. That means with every circumstance, appearance, character, emotional, spiritual and mental aspects. You are who you are, in this given moment of time. If you have an issue with yourself or are holding onto a certain attitude that may not be beneficial for you, then "now" is the time to begin your transformation.

Instead of fighting with who you are, try accepting the whole of you and allow the energy of change to begin taking place in your life. If you would take a moment to think about what expectations you put forth concerning different areas of your life, you may just realize that you have been holding yourself back. You and your thoughts alone are what are continually creating your life story. When you let go of the idea of how something should be, and just allow it to happen the way it is destined to be, your life will become much more satisfying for you.

I feel that if we accept ourselves where we are at and stop any type of discordant thinking, we will heal ourselves, open ourselves up to a more peaceful, loving life. If we change from within we will change the outside. I know it is not easy, but being mindful and consciously aware of what we are thinking will make all the difference.
