RE: Mindful or Mind FULL - Meditation and Coping - Part 4
I think you’ve put up a good series here. I especially liked part 2, because in that one, you managed to materialize some of my personal struggles.
I never thought about using the things you talk about in part 3 to get back in the ‘now’, but it actually makes sense. When I go to sleep, I always rub the sides of a handkerchief with my fingers, because it calms me down. It never occured to me that I could put it in my pocket and use it during the day when I get lost in my thoughts again. I’m definitely going to give it a go.
The meditation part ... I’ve tried a couple of times, but I can’t get my head to stop thinking. My shiatsu therapist always tells me to listen to the silence. I try, but my thoughts are always taking over at that point. I guess I should keep trying, training my brain not to think at 100 miles an hour all the time... :0)
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your posts - you gave me domething to work with.
You're very welcome :) The mediation is hard, it's not for everyone. I usually can't quiet my mind either. I started painting and coloring, I focused so much on the activity I didn't pay attention to what was going on in my head. (That's the next part btw) from there I was able to find a mediation that worked for me.
As for your handkerchief definitely carry it with you. The other day my hubby took me shopping, usually a very bad idea. We went into the grocery store and I was putting fruit into the plastic bags. I didn't realized until I was out of the store, I had kept an empty one and was playing with it, mostly was a crumpled ball but still something to distract me. So now, it's starting to become second nature.
My girlfriend just bought me a mandala colouring book. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m curious whether it will work :0)
Oh cool. I hope you have fun with it. If you find the mandalas are to much and such, I can suggest some authors with different types of books and FB groups that actually offer free pages.
