We used to oscillate
together in terror
see: when the towers fell
see: Columbine
see: the Oklahoma City bombing

What happened?
Terror has become passive
ice cream every summer day
Trayvon and Parkland and Stephon
are footnotes of an era

sticky, cloying blood in puddles
the ice cream we are too slow to lick
so sure there will be more tomorrow.
We bathe our hands
and forget.

    It has become so commonplace, this violence, and the victim blaming that goes along with it. People are more concerned with being right than doing right, and it is sickening.
