Don't expect anything in return

Our parents have done too much for us and we are also doing much for our kids. Have our kids demanded to own acres of land, education in universities abroad or a bank balance that friends would envy? No, then why are we doing it? That's basic human nature. We have this motherly instincts in us that makes us accumulate enough wealth for our kids so that they can live as peacefully as possible without any financial constraints. We as parents are often ready to sacrifice our happiness for the sake of our kids, but does that make us entitled to demand something from them in future?

My aunt is on a self realisation mode now. She is 58 year old with no good investment. She had a good business that gave them a satisfying lifestyle. Her business closed unexpected and that's when reality hit her hard.

During her good times, the cash flow was regular. She was a single modern mother for her two daughters who believed that having fun was important. She made sure that her daughter's got 5 times more money than what they asked for. They were never short of anything. They got what they desired. Both her daughters got married to men of their choice and their mother didn't shy away from spending whatever was remaining making her bankrupt.

Recently she said me that she feels bad that she didn't save wisely. She said that she always felt that her daughter's would care for her like she did to them. Now, when she requests money from her daughter's they question her needs and that pinches her. She says that she gave them money without questioning and now when it is their turn to return the favor they are not obliging.

Well, i personally feel it was my aunt's mistake to have not saved wisely. Spending money on kids and expecting a return is too foolish. I, myself have many investment plans, but none of it are for my children. They would inherit all of it after I and my husband depart from this world. It is my wish to educate them and I don't expect anything in return.
