Some thought dropped into my mind over this last weekend and I feel sharing with friends, family, and colleague is important. When you begin a new journey in life (new skill, new adventure, and company) its usually seems to be an ineffective use of time at first especially when you have a record of success in what you already know how to do, all the new thing in the journey of life will look like a waste of time.

I will share a little piece about an individual and relate it to a theory that different efficiency and been effective in the journey of life. Follow to the stream;

Do you Know Who Hepburn Is?

From the story, I have read about Audrey Hepburn she was an Icon and has many awards to her name. In the 1950s, Hepburn became known as one of the greatest actresses of her era and was the first actress to win three awards for a single performance (Academy Award, A Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award) which make her become the leading role in the world of romantic comedy Roman Holiday, this occurred in 1953.

Why calling her an icon? Its so huge to believe that Hepburn remains one of just 15 people to earn all four major entertainment awards (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) which we called EGOT and from the calculation, this is like over half a century. This icon has more than one new film per year on the average and if we are to estimate this, she was on a trajectory to be a movie star for decades to come.

In all this that has happened to Hepburn, it's unbelievable to know that She Stop Acting

Hepburn was so popular and it was just in her 30s but yet she stopped appearing in films after 1967 and switched careers which make her to spent 25 good years working tirelessly for UNICEF providing food and healthcare to children in war-torn countries. Through all these years Hepburn performed volunteer work throughout Africa continent, Asia and also South America.

With her past popularity and what she has known for, after dropping all this to work for UNICEF her first act was on stage and the next she had was just in one of service but surprisingly in December 1992, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for all her effort, and for those in United State understand the worth of the award because this is the highest civilian award.

What did I want to derive from this?

Everyone gets just only one life to live and it is how you determine the best way to spend your time that determines how effective you will be in whatsoever you do. It is one thing to be effective, it is another thing to be efficient.

Productivity is the measure of the right thing you get done

Friend, can you different from the efficiency of a man and the effectiveness of a man? The picture Peter Drucker painted in one of his management presentations revealed that There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all. When you understand that getting more things done is different from getting the right things done you will plan your time, day and be effective in your dealing every day.

Let me sound this to your hearings, you think you are making progress by getting more things done? you need to check what you are doing, search through what you do and ask yourself Is this a right thing to do? Your progress in life is a measure of the right thing you get done and how you have been able to contribute positively to the people, lives, and communities attached to you.

Are you asking....... How do I Decide What the Right Things Are?

The right thing can be traced down to an approached I discovered in Pareto Principle which is centered on 80/20 Rule...... I will share this little piece and continue with the open mind in the efficiency of a man and the effectiveness of a man in my next article.

The 80/20 Rule states that, in any particular domain, a small number of things account for the majority of the results. For example, 80 percent of the land in Italy is owned by 20 percent of the people. Or, 75 percent of NBA championships are won by 20 percent of the teams. The numbers don't have to add up to 100. The point is that the majority of the results are driven by a minority of causes.

In my next article I will dwell more on this rule, I brought out this introductory note on our productivity as a person and after this mind revealing moment via this article our orientation about what we do will change.
