Some Of The Strangest and Unusual Phobias Existing Today

in #psychology7 years ago (edited)

As unique species on this amazing planet of ours, we are all wired differently. Personal mannerism and idiosyncrasies defer from one individual to another. Based on our psychology, we react to so many things in life. Some; we react to more, and some; less.

When it comes to the issue of ‘phobia’, our human psychology often unexplainably becomes erratic. This is simply because the craziest and the lamest, of things or situations elicit a high level of fear from certain people most times. This is as basic as ‘phobia’ can be viewed. People just develop such a strange and unexplainable fear for certain situations or things.

In this post, I’d be sharing some of the most bizarre “phobias” that currently plague so many people around us; people whom at first glance might never give off the sign that they could be affected by such, but when push comes to shove, some of them could go bunkers when exposed to their phobia.

1.) Mageirocophobia – Fear of Cooking

Source

This very condition seemingly sounds like a fitting excuse for some of our lazy females out there, lolz. And it pretty much sounds like something made up too, because realistically, if you can eat and you enjoy food, why then would a fear of cooking beset such a person? Well, like most phobias which are pretty much unreasonable and unexplainable, Mageirocophobia exists.

2.) Pentheraphobia – Fear of One’s Mother-in-Law

Source

This particular one might be funny and all, but I bet if your mother in-law was “Madea” of the Tyler Perry fame and movies, then you can probably relate to the condition. Even though the condition is not uncommon and maybe irrational, it is something so many people (especially women) have experienced to the point that it is now an actual term and condition.

3.) Deipnophobia – Fear of Dinner Conversation

Source

As weird as this may sound, some people get drenched in anxiety just by thinking of going through something as simple and basic as dinner. Such level of anxiety can be tormenting for people who suffer from “Deipnophobia”.

4.) Agyrophobia – Fear of Crossing Streets

Source

I have personally witnessed people experiencing this condition. It is worse for people who have at one point experienced accidents in their lives. Agyrophobia is not so much as the fear of vehicles, but more about crossing certain types of roads or jaywalking.

5.) Cathisophobia – Fear of Sitting

Source

😁 😂 …..lolz! Funny enough, this phobia originates as a result of painful health conditions related to hemorrhoids or abuse. And weird as the phobia is, it is known to generate an extreme level anxiety in the sufferer.

6.) Eisoptrophobia – Fear of Mirrors

Source

This phobia doesn’t seem as strange as it sounds. Given the number of horror movies or sci-fi which have portrayed mirrors as gateways to other dimensions, and as means of harming or monitoring other beings, it is only understandable that some people might develop a phobia for mirrors. But in most situations there is absolutely nothing sinister about the mirror other than the looks of the viewer.

7.) Pediophobia – Fear of Dolls

Source

When it comes to the fear of dolls, not much dolls comes to mind other than the legendary “Chucky” …. 😄. And yes! Lots of people actually have extreme fear of those dolls actually coming to life. You can go ahead and blame Hollywood and other film industries for this phobia.

8.) Automatonophobia – Fear of Ventriloquism Dummies

Source

Ain’t he/she sexy? 😁. A sighting of dummies like these can make some people fidget and pee their pants. That’s how much of a phobia dummies can actually elicit from some people. And in reality so many of us may actually have this ‘Automatonophobia’

9.) Demonophobia – Fear of Demons

Source

But seriously, who wouldn’t have this phobia? Lolz!
Lots of cultures, religions, deities exist. So do artworks and crafts also. And being under the influence of some of these surroundings which depict demonic figures or entities can result in this phobia affecting some people more than it does others.

10.) Arachibutyrophobia – Fear of Having Peanut Butter Sticking to the Roof of the Mouth

Source

😂😂😂 ….. This has to be the weirdest, I must say. Like seriously? ‘Fear of having peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth?’ Oh please! Lolz

Lolz..... @rebeccafl. Sorry to have possibly given you nightmares, this night. But thanks alot for reading.

Those phobias in the first part until before the fear of dolls are definitely anxiety suppressed.

Of course, you can give any fear a name. But it only becomes a clinically relevant phobia if it leads to avoidance behaviour or suffering.

Is there such phobia as fear of moms. I totally freak out when mom starts to nag. It could last a day!
