Gaining Self-Knowledge – Moments of Being Yourself
In everyday life you like to look good. You know how to behave in specific situations, you know your strengths and weaknesses and you know how to make good impression. Basically, you know. But there is something else. Shorter or longer moments when less known part of your story comes to light.
There are some simple ways to contact the deeper part of your personality.
Emotions
Emotions say a lot, especially when they are strong or inadequate to the situation. They say more than we would like to know. You can observe many situations which may seem strange, like when someone is nice to you but you're getting angry or when you are not happy about achieving a desired goal. Such kind of situations usually gives you an important informaion that there is something deeper what you should get to know. But what do we often do? Looking for the simpler explanation we are always ready to blame others or some external factors. Nevertheless, emotions say a lot more about us than about others and they keep coming back to the real story, whether we like it or not.
Likes and dislikes
It's not a secret that our friends are somewhat similar to us. It's one of the factors which make the bond of friendship stronger. And that is also the source of interesting knowledge. Sometimes it's easier to see some features in others but you can draw conclusions about yourself as well. Another source can be the characteristics of the people you don't like. Maybe it takes some effort but you should find the answer – what you really don't like about some people and why.
Surprising situations
Sometimes you have the chance to see your behavior in an unexpected turn of events. You can be surprised twice. Firstly, because of the situation itself and secondly, because of your own reaction. Well, you don't have time to plan anything and you can't manipulate. So there is a great opportunity to see something real. Your first and intuitive reaction often makes you aware of what you really think.
When you don't understand something
This is a kind of interesting but also embarrassing experience. You see the people around you giving signals that you said or did something wrong but you actually don't know what was that. Probably you'll find something important if you try to understand what's going on. It's worth your attention although it can sometimes be painful.
Silence and loneliness
Thoughts are organized according to our actions. A fast paced life and everyday distractions make us feel lost so we need time to focus on what is really important. Each moment of calm and loneliness can be very helpful if you take it seriously. You shouldn't be afraid of silence. Silence is a great way to gain self-knowledge.
Crisis
Every crisis is certainly not a pleasant experience. But it's also a special moment when you can make a real change in your life. That's because some hidden problems come to light and you get a chance to see them and to solve them. A crisis is a great motivation for change because it's so unpleasnat that you're really interested in overcoming it. Don't be sad for too long and use your crisis to support personal development.
