PB & J

Well the last Freeze Peach show on MSP Waves hosted by @r0nd0n was an interesting one, with plenty going on in the audience chat space and the various topics we struck on while traversing the mountain which is the hooman condition. If @r0nd0n actually posted the shows i may have linked to the audio post here.... ;P

During the show we touched upon autonomy, we then tried to create a personal example for R0n, but it proved to be difficult as he is clearly triggered by guns :P so we switched it up by making the example about a pet dog.... but it seemed as though it had lost its edge.... it could also be the hand full of miller lites and the couple of double, double baboons we had "interacted" with throughout the show.

I think that because we were trying to make it considerably specific that we fell away from the concept of the construct itself. Post event i though of a better example, thanks to @clayboyn 's suggestion to make a PB&J sammich, which may lead to a better understanding.... and here it is:

Cope: Hey Mate, im makin a PB & J sandwich you want one ?
Ron: Oh, nah im ok you crazy aussie.

Cope goes into kitchen and makes sandwich

Cope: Here you go MATE, I made you PB & J sandwich.
Ron: Thanks, but i cant eat that.

Cope puts sandwich up to r0ns face

Cope: Come on mate...

Ron slaps PB&J out of Copes hand

Ron: WTF is wrong with you crazy aussies ?!?!

Cope: Piss off mate, im just tryna make sure your skinny featherweight ass is fed!!!

Ron: I have a nut allergy you drop bear hugging hippy!!!

OK, so right off the bat we can see that Copes intention is to be kind and in this example we can consider that to be part of Copes autonomy, to choose to act in this way freely. In the situation R0n is clearly leading away from considerably adverse effects of an allergic reaction, however, Ron's autonomy is the ability to choose what he wants to do regardless of the reason.

What if Ron just plain old don't like PB&J ? he don't think the combination is a good mix? What if Ron ate just before we started hanging out ? is having surgery within 24hrs? or anything else he don't want to talk about? The long and short is that it doesn't matter why he aint interested... he aint interested.

So we can see here that both parties are just trying to maintain their autonomy, however, one person is forcing their autonomy on to another. In the example the outcome is death (cos i know r0n like to go to extremes with these things, lol), but even if the outcome is not death, does it make it any less an offense to force ones autonomy on to someone else ? I think not... and here is why...

The basis of the action taking place is to dominate another human being into submission, disregarding their free will and ability to choose what they want in THEIR life. This action is a direct attack on concepts such as freedom, liberty, etc.

Further, there are a number of psychological constructs which indicate considerable adverse effects of having ones autonomy impinged, some of which are highlighted in a recent article I wrote entitled Psychological Construct: A.U.T.O.N.O.M.Y.... find out what it means to me.

I hope that this example clears things up for you a little bit @r0nd0n and that you can find personal experiences in which the concept and its understanding can be applied. Thinking retrospectively, maybe you could present some examples where this kind of thing has happened to you for the next show, save me trying to "create" examples that are relevant on the fly based on guns and puppies ;)

Now, with all that being said and done... im going to make a BP&J sandwich... you want one @r0nd0n...? LOLZ.
