What We Should Know About Consciousness?

The reality of consciousness is the immense puzzle of psychology. It is troublesome even to characterize the term, albeit each individual of normal insight comprehends what is tried to be passed on by it. Webster characterizes it as knowledge of one's own existence, sensations, mental operations, and so forth.; prompt knowledge or view of any protest, state, or sensation; staying alert; being sensible of.

Another expert characterizes the term as the state of monitoring one's sensations; the power, faculty, or mental state of monitoring one's own particular existence, condition right now, considerations, emotions, and activities.

Halleck's definition is: That indefinable normal for mental states which makes us know about them. It will be seen that the possibility of mindfulness is the embodiment of the possibility of consciousness. Be that as it may, at the last, we are constrained to acknowledge that it is difficult to nearly characterize consciousness, for it is something so totally novel and not the same as whatever else that we have no different terms at all synonymous to it.

We can characterize it just in its own terms, as will be seen by reference to the definitions above given. What's more, it is similarly difficult to obviously represent its appearance and being. Huxley has well stated: How it is that anything so astounding as a state of consciousness comes to fruition by the consequence of aggravating nervous tissue, is similarly as unaccountable as the presence of the jinnee when Aladdin rubbed his light.

All that we can ever know with respect to the idea of consciousness must be gained from handing the consciousness over ourselves back upon itself, by centering consciousness upon its own mental operations by methods for reflection. By turning internal the conscious gaze we may see the stream of the surge of thought from its ascent from the subconscious regions of the mind to its last vanishing in a similar district.

It is a typical mistake to assume that we are specifically conscious of items outside of ourselves. This is incomprehensible, for there is no immediate knowledge of such outside articles. We are conscious only of our sensations of, or mental pictures of, the outside articles. All that it is feasible for us to be straightforwardly conscious of are our own particular mental encounters or states.

We can't be specifically conscious of anything outside of our own minds. We are not specifically conscious of the tree which we see; we are straightforwardly conscious only of the impression of the nerves emerging from the effect of the light waves conveying the picture of the tree. We are not straightforwardly conscious of the tree when we touch it and see its character in that way; we are specifically conscious simply of the sensation revealed by the nerves in the fingertips which have interacted with the tree.

We are specifically conscious even of our own bodies just similarly. It is important for the mind to encounter that of which it might wind up noticeably conscious.

We are conscious just of:

  • That which our mind is encountering right now, or

  • That which it has encountered previously, and which is being re-experienced this minute by the procedure of the memory, or which is being re-combined or re-arranged this minute by the creative energy.

Subconscious Planes

However, it must not be believed that each mental state or mental truth is in the field of consciousness. This mistake has been detonated for a long time. The truth of the matter is presently perceived that the field of consciousness is an exceptionally thin and restricted one, and that the colossal field of mental action lies outside of its tight cutoff points.

Past and outside of the restricted field of consciousness lies the colossal subconscious storage facility of memory in which are put away the encounters of the past, to be drawn again into the field of consciousness by an exertion of the will in the demonstration of memory, or by relationship in standard recognition. In that awesome district, likewise, the mind shows large portions of its exercises and performs a lot of its work.

In that extraordinary locale are developed the feelings and sentiments which have such an imperative impact in our lives, and which regularly show an unclear aggravating distress well before they ascend to the plane of consciousness. In that extraordinary district are created the thoughts, emotions, and originations which emerge to the plane of consciousness and show what men call genius.

On the subconscious plane the creative energy does quite a bit of its work, and startles its proprietor by giving him the refined outcome in the field of consciousness. In the subconscious field is played out that exceptional procedure of mental mastication, digestion, and assimilation with which all cerebrum specialists are well-known, and which retains the crude mental material given it, isolates, processes, and absorbs it, and speaks to it to the conscious faculties at some point after as a transformed substance.

It has been assessed that no less than eighty five for every penny of our mental exercises are performed underneath or outside of the field of consciousness. The psychology of today is giving careful consideration to this some time ago disregarded incredible territory or territories of the mind. The psychology of tomorrow will give careful consideration to it.

The best of the present day experts concur that in the immense field of subconscious mentation is to be discovered the clarification of much that is unexplainable something else. Actually, it is likely that after a short time consciousness will be viewed as a unimportant centering of consideration upon mental states, and the objects of consciousness simply as that segment of the substance of the mind in the field of mental vision made by such centering.

Your Mind and How to Use It

Do you believe in parallel universes? I love your post. Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert, said we might be in a computer program. It seems we are unaware of a lot from our id or superego or subconscious part of our brain or soul. I love the movie Inside Out which shows little people or animals living in a girl's brain. They represent how her brain may work. It personified the insides of her brain. In that cartoon film, they even got to go to the dream world. Very interesting. I also like thinking about time travel and I am a big fan of Star Trek Next Generation. Also, the show Fringe. Also, House.

The totally of human still remains a mystery. Maybe people can answer those why questions but still, its reality remains undiscovered.

The depths of the ocean is very mysterious and even the jungles too.

They are for a reason.

Great post! Plus, I love Atkinson and many of the New Thought authors. Thomas Troward is another great one.

I think consciousnesses will remain a mystery for science for a long time to come. For now, we have our own experience of it and like Tibetan dream yogis, it is our job to explore it for ourselves:)

You are right, human emotions remains a mystery even with the existence of so many studies.

I think about this a lot. I often wonder whether we have free will or whether our consciousness is just observing the thoughts the pop up in our head. We don't actually think them up, we just observe them as they arise

Its really hard the understand the reality of this. For now we just need to rely on the studies of psychologists to at least come up with an answer.

I am amazed that I'm still "me" every-time I wake up...yet I still don't understand as to why that is.

Just be yourself, you dont need to understand those mysteries.

A great publication. Well done. Greetings. Happy day. Please support me
