THE ABUSE OF USING PRESCRIPTION and OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS IS EXPANDING!

Studies are finding that this day in age more and more people are becoming addicted to both prescription and over the counter medication. Due to the changes in every day society, more persons are suffering from stress, disease and other life issues. Thus causing some people to misuse their medications, whether it be over the counter or prescribed to them. By not reading the instructions properly.
A study shows that in 2005 the National drug use survey found that 6.4 million people from the ages of 12 and older are misusing medications. Of those statistics it also shows 4.7 million used pain relievers, 1.8 million used tranquilizers and 1.1 million used stimulants. They found that between the ages of 18-25 was the biggest increase for misuse of pain relievers.
There finding in the U.S. in the emergency department that 4% of 1.9 million patients were admitted for drug treatment. In 2002 hospitals were baffled that 55% of admissions were for prescription narcotics, and that the majority were white females.
Physicians that prescribe these meds are part of the problem for over prescribing.
Professionals are reporting that the internet plays a huge role in the misuse of non-medical drugs. A 2006 survey stated that 89% of internet sites are selling controlled prescription drugs and they don't even have prescription requirements.
There study also included finding professionals who work around controlled drugs are becoming more at risk for becoming addicts themselves because of the availability they have to all the different medications. Researcher's are studying ways to try to reduce the consumption and misuse of these medications.
