RE: Shitposting - The Defense Mechanism of Lonely Geeks (And Corporation Co-opting)

in #psychology7 years ago (edited)

Shitposting isn't about posting literal shit, it's about posting non-content. Memes tend to be non-content in the manner explored in this post, as they actually stand in, or substitute, actual communication. They reference "shared imagery" instead of actually reach out to the other yourself.

And while not all memes are shitposting, most, when not just made as random posts on meme-related boards, are.

Sort:

Dude... have you ever seen a non generic meme?
Because a picture may worth a thousand words, but memes worth at least a few dozens

A non-generic meme is not a meme, it's an image macro. Memes are generic by definition.

Tell that to all the people who post non generic memes, and everyone else still calling them memes

And @geekorner is referring to something else when calling it a meme, which means he didn't confuse the two, he's just using the word differently than you are.

Guy is trying to apply a narrow definition to a broadly defined word, in such cases clear destinctions should be added, to emphasize that the criticism applies only to certain instances of the broad definition, while excluding all the rest
