RE: Nonhumans Can Judge Human Cooperation and Reciprocity

in #psychology8 years ago

What an excellent article @krnel!

I have also observed over and over again how animals do "have a preference and demonstrate clear avoidance of individuals who are not helpful or behave unfairly", most especially seen in higher instances of intelligence. It seems to be reflecting a saying I have been using for many years now "Life provides for itself." as when someone doesn't follow the laws of life, that same someone tends to have a tougher and tougher time with life. Maybe this underlines a facet of life one tends to dismiss too easily: Life works through consciousness.

“I think that in humans there may be this basic sensitivity towards antisocial behavior in others. Then through growing up, inculturation and teaching, it develops into a full-blown sense of morality." These two lines are deep. Yet, they are a stretch from the experiment and necessarily demand much further investigation, at least on my part! ;) Depending on the nature of the intention behind the so-called "antisocial" behaviour, I have the strong contention that some apparently antisocial behaviour would end up being discovered as positively influencing life. I think about the gurus and most yogis for instance that are seemingly "antisocial"...

On the other hand, thinking the assertion that "through growing up, inculturation and teaching, it develops into a full-blown sense of morality", it makes me wonder: If morality isn't already within ourselves! Depending on our inculturation and teachings, might bring about a synchronization with the natural laws from which we find ourselves intrinsically judging form. On the polar opposite, if the human made morale systems are out of synch with the natural laws, then we find ourselves in a constant ethical malaise.

Because of truth, I can hardly ever say that I am loyal to a person, but definitely will be loyal to ideas such truth. As I behave based on the Golden Rule, it demands form other people to know who their real friends are and/or the strength to be able to withstand some bitter medicine sometimes as truth rudely cuts through ego. That is why I LOVE and fully support your potent ending:

"This is why an understanding of truth vs. falsity, right vs. wrong is important by first caring for truth. Then we can put truth and moral truth above any self-interested or personal attachments we have towards others."

Thanks again for this great piece! All for one and one for all! Namaste :)
