Three Faces Of Human

The Japanese say you have three faces. The first face, you show to the world. The second face, you show to your close friends, and your family. The third face, you never show anyone. It is the truest reflection of who you are.

I think that's very true to most of the people. The first face we show it to the world because we know what sort of person they want us to be or act. In the work place we will pretend to be the diligent so that the boss will like us, be friendly to our colleague so that we can get along. We hid our true nature because we want them to like us. Just like when you're trying to woo the girl of your dream. You will pretend to be the person she likes because you know what kind of person she usually will go for.

Few days back i was talking to my 9 year old niece about how people would pretend to be her friend but is actually not. I know.. seems a bit too early to tell that to a kid. But she's sad that one of her friend suddenly ignore her and start bullying her at school. I told her that people will usually pretend to be nice to you when they first met you but after a while they will get comfortable with you and starts showing you her true nature. She asked me why do people do that? I asked her back... do you behave the same when your at home and when your in school? She said no. I asked her why? She said if she act the same in school people will dislike her and teachers will scold her. So at a young age of 9 she understood the importance of hiding her true self in front of others. She asked me whether its a bad thing or its a good thing. I simply don't have an answer for that because in order to survive in society you have to pretend to be someone you are not some times.

The second face we usually show to our close friends or family simply because there's no point in hiding from them. We feel more comfortable to show our emotions around them. Like my 9 year old niece, she would dare to throw her tantrums only at home. She would bottled up all her anger at school and then put it all out on her little brother. But not everyone has three faces. Her brother in fact has only one or maybe he's too young or too immature to have it yet. He behaves the same at home and at the school. That's why he got punish at school a lot.

We read a lot of news about how neighbors of a serial killer knows nothing about the crime happening beside them and mostly thought the killer is a nice and friendly guy. A friendly and nice good looking guy who beats up his girlfriend. A conservative married woman cheating behind her husband. Those are all very good examples of human having three faces.

And for the 3rd face.... we will never know.
