Video Games & Online Games Addiction is a Serious Social Problem

in #psychology7 years ago

In today's society especially for families who lives in the cities, gone are the days where family members can group together, interacting among themselves about school, works and their daily activities. 2 decades ago, dinner was such a beautiful family moment, where family members talks about what they did during the day. After dinner, they would watch TV together, or even play some board games together, and thus they create a strong family bond.

Nowadays, these family activities has long been forgotten, partially to blame is the inventions of Digital Gadgets like Computers, TVs and Smartphones. Youths and adults alike, tend to spend most of their times hooked to these gadgets and thus has greatly reduces the family ties and values.

I was reading the paper this morning and read a post about a youth in China who is paralyzed waist down after playing online games for 20 straight hours in a Cyber Cafe. This news made me to recall back a few cases that has happened in the past few years, also in China and Taiwan, where youths are found dead inside Cyber Cafes after playing Online Games non-stop for a few days!! I was thinking to myself, what the hell are their parents or their guardians are doing? Do they even realizes that these kids are not at home after going out for hours or even days? Aren't they even worried? I'm not saying that all parents are to be fully blamed for such problems, maybe they are good parents but the youths are too addicted to let go of these bad habits.

With such a case, the authorities need to step in to work on the problem. I applauded China for setting up a center or an institute where these troubled youths are given the proper guidance, confidence and tenacity to free themselves from Video & Online Games Addiction, but is it enough to hinder these youths from going back to their old habits?

To my opinion, a more stricter law must be imposed to eradicate these type of problems to happen all over again.

1. Do not let the Cyber Cafes to operate 24 Hours.

Cyber Cafes shouldn't be given a permit to operate for 24 Hours, if their time is restricted, their patrons will have to leave when it closes.

2. Cyber Cafe's patrons must be given a time restrictions.

To avoid their patrons from using their computers non-stop, give them time restriction, maybe 3 hours max. Asked them to stop and rest before they can continue again.

3. Schools and parents, must always be aware of the youths activities.

Schools and parents must work closely with the authorities. If they found out something amiss about the students or child's attendance at school, behavior or activities, let the authorities know so that they can help to monitor their movements.

4. Youths Curfew.

This is the most strictest rule that I can think of. At certain period of time of the day, usually at night time. Youths are not allowed to get out of their houses without their parents or custodians consents. If they are caught by the authorities, only their parents or guardians can bail them out.

These are part of my opinions, I won't say that it is 100% will work, but it is worth to be looked into to prevent this problem from becoming more serious and out of hand in the future.
