The healing in being lonely

Loneliness is one of the biggest fears of mankind, but if one can learn how to use it, one can win it.

We, human beings are social animals. We grow up in families, develop friendships and other relationships. We are part of a community and we literally hate loneliness from the bottom of our hearts. When we find ourselves alone, all our fears and dispairs come together. Some of us can even deal with panic attacks when remaining lonely is one place.

The problem with loneliness comes from many facts and one of the most reasons people hate being lonely is that when they are alone, they have no other option than to listen to their own thoughts and deal with their own demons. Those moments of loneliness put us face to face with our own regrets, with our deepest dreams, with our deepest fears and with the struggle in facing them. In that moments, one can desperate look for some distractions because it is less harmfull to deal with others' problems than our own.

Other problem in dealing with loneliness is the feeling of useless one can have. We are raised to serve somebody else, to serve our country, to serve others. We learn this from our own parents, when they take care of us when we are babies and now, when someone has to deal with loneliness, how can he or she not feel useless?

Taking into consideration all this, how can we use our lonely times in our favor? How can we be happy with being lonely?

Even if it's not simple, everyone who's dealing with lonely times can turn them into a positive experience. Instead of being invaded by all feelings of uselessness, everyone can use their loneliness to get to know themselves better, to know their feelings, their flows and their strengths.

Also, lonely times can be self loving times, or even selfish times. You don't want to get out of the bed on Saturdays? It's perfect! You can take your laptop there and watch all day movies. Or you can read a new book.

At the begining it can be difficult to enjoy the time spent with yourself, but, after a while you'll learn how to love yourself more and you'll appreciate the quality time spent alone.
