Depression; how bad is it!

Has it ever occurred to you the feeling of giving up on everything you are doing? This kind of feeling could be attributed to depression. According to Britannica:

Depression, in psychology, a mood or emotional state that is marked by feelings of low self-worth or guilt and a reduced ability to enjoy life. A person who is depressed usually experiences several of the following symptoms: feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or pessimism; lowered self-esteem and heightened self-depreciation; a decrease or loss of ability to take pleasure in ordinary activities; reduced energy and vitality; slowness of thought or action; loss of appetite; and disturbed sleep or insomnia.

Depression: is highly an emotional distress that could claim one's life once addicted to sorrow, but why won't such happen. To me I believe this life is for few set of elite that could effect change and policy making. Why do I say so, the less privilege ones suffer most unless through the grace of God when they are being opportune and be able to utilize it judiciously. Though depression don't affect the less privilege ones alone as it spread it tentacle even to the rich. The feeling of guilt and anxiety is not limited to the poor alone. As the saying goes thus, the rich also cry; that is in one way or the other they are also affected by the cause of nature. The lost of love one's, illness in various form and many more that I couldn't mention.

It is often said, to be contented with whatever you have is the best gift one could get in the life as you won't be able to strive more for imperishable things, but if that should be the case, how will someone grow? I think, contented should only be limited to material things that add little or nothing to one's existence.

Who is more affected by depression, the rich or the poor?
