Philosophy of Use: Where to Take Your Trip

Tripping is a lot of fun and it can be very enlightening in a number of ways but where you trip matters. Setting can color your experience greatly and may make the difference between a journey to the inner depths of your mind or a trip down the road to panic town. There are some other hazards one must watch out for as well. These are powerful drugs that we are talking about and they will leave you very altered so it is good to take steps to prevent accidents and run-ins with law enforcement. You wouldn't want to freak out while you are getting arrested after stumbling into a hole in the ground, would you? All this, however, is not to say that you must cloister yourself away when you use psychedelics. Part of the value of tripping is getting to experience new things (or old things in new ways) and it is hard to do that from the comfort and safety of your bedroom. So this brings us to the question which is at play here. That is, where should we choose to take our trips?

You want to strike a good balance between safety and potential for stimulation. Safe environments are often boring but you don't want to sacrifice too much of that safety to the gods of entertainment either. So we must find a good spot somewhere in the middle. Tripping in nature can be great but it might not be a good idea to eat a bunch of mushrooms on top of a craggy mountain. You don't have to lock yourself in your home (you might want to, though, and that's fine) when you trip but you don't want to venture too deeply into the public sphere either. I recommend choosing a place where there are things to do and experience but where you also have relative privacy and comfort. The home of a friend could be a good choice if you are not too concerned with moving around. A nicely maintained camp site that you rent for the day would work if you like being outside while you travel inward. If you do choose to go out in public, maybe consider a place where you don't have to interact with too many people if you don't want to, like a large park.

Safety is not your only concern. Psychedelics make you very sensitive to your surroundings and being in the wrong place can cause you to have a very difficult trip. This issue is more subjective and personal than finding a safe place for your trip but it is no less important. If, for example, you took some LSD in a hospital, you would likely be very safe but you would probably also have a very unpleasant trip. If you don't like big crowds, you will like them even less after a few grams of mushrooms. For a person like that, it may be best to trip at home instead of at a concert. For others, being alone is very uncomfortable so they may need to trip around some friends. The exact place one chooses is not what's important in this case, as long as it is a place where he or she feels secure.

This is all just my opinion, of course. I wouldn't presume to tell anyone where they can or cannot trip. It, however, never hurts to take a little time to plan and find a place that will let you make the most of your psychedelic journey. What do you think about all this? Do you have a favorite place to trip or have you ever taken a trip in the wrong place and had it turn out bad? I am curious to hear what you have to say about this.

Peace.

As an aside from this content, I want to mention that I am trying a new upvote service (of sorts). From what I read, if you mention @dynamicgreentk and @thundercurator in your post and use the dynamicsteemians tag you are supposed to get a pretty decent upvote. So, I figured I might as well give it a try. If it works, It could be worth doing in the future. If it doesn't, all I lost was the time it took to write this statement.

Set and Setting are like the most important options..^^

Thanks and very true. I'm going to write another one of these on mind set in a few days, I think. That is the harder topic since it is more about describing the intangible feeling one wants to have when he or she goes into a trip. I have seen the wrong state of mind send some people on some unpleasant trips.

Explained expertly what majority of people don't understand. The whole point of using psychedelics is to do them your way. Resteemed.

Thank you.

I agree with that. It takes a personal touch to get the best trip, for sure.

Very nice post and great article
