Christian prophecy: On those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. Matthew 4:16

One of the most interesting things about the gospel of Saint Matthew is that it describes how many of the prophecies of the Old Testament were fulfilled in Jesus. According to the thought of the evangelist Lord Jesus was the expected messiah, the person that had to fulfill the pact made between King David and God through the words of the prophet Nathan, an eternal and indestructible kingdom had to realize God's salvation plan for humanity.
The gospel relates that Jesus, before calling his first disciples and beginning his public activity Jesus learned of the death of John the Baptist, because the prophet had condemned Herod for lusting after his brother's wife, Herodiah; Jesus saw his life in danger and so he retreated far from Herod's power, in Capernaum.
In this way a prophecy made by Isaiah was fulfilled:
"Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles—
the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light was dawned" Matthew 4:15-16.
This christian prophecy shows in a metaphorical sense Jesus as that spiritual light that had to reach men to illuminate them. That is, just as light illuminates the eyes of men, the wisdom of God illuminates, that is, provokes, the thinking and reflection of men. According to this prophecy, Jesus had to liberate the oppressed and the hopeless, those who lived in the vicinity of ignorance and death, a task that for Jesus was not easy.
The ancient prophecies marked the life of Jesus and anticipated his destiny and his path, because Jesus was while he was physically in the world between his disciples and followers the "son of man", that is, the personification of the perfections of God.
