VICE is now disabling Archive.is and WaybackMachine because they think right wing sites are using it to discredit them... Huh?
Huh??? You may be asking. Yup... Me too... Archiving sites are a way to keep track of what a post originally had in it for content, so that we can go back and compare it to something else.
Apparently VICE thinks that is a racist and bigotted thing to do, so they aren't going to let Archiving websites do that to their content any more...
Here are some links that used to work that no longer do, check it out how they do not load any more. When you open these up you can see it says page not found, BUT if you click on where it says ORIGINAL and copy and paste that into your browser it works!
And here is one I just tried to make sure they really disabled it > http://archive.is/4pAMG It literally cann't grab the content except for the ADs on the side.
This one I tried grabbed only the text from the post and nothing else. http://archive.is/FnIv2 Suppesdly they are still working on disabling it completely. Sometimes it may work on brand new articles, but the articles above I linked are from July 3rd and do not work at all. It may be something they add to their post later to make it non-archive-able.
How does this possibly make any sense? I am really scratching my head to figure this out. Check out their post below and read it, what does it even mean? Of course if they are wrong and we have their archived post to prove they are wrong then they should be discredited for that post. If they continue to do that they should be discredited a lot because we have the proof.
When they are able to edit anything they want we have no record of what they said, that is why I believe Steem is a great technology.
Censorship is wrong. Disabling archives or making it hard to archive content is wrong. We need to be able to fact check what people write and if they are truthful they deserve credit, untruthful deserve to be discredited!!!!!!

- Paste a link of any Vice URL and then click Google Web Cache
- Copy that URL that Google Web Cache gives you and then head over to Archive.is and it should archive correctly now for the most part.

this is debunked fake news. YouTube has already covered this and found it to not be true. vice was hacked apparently and this fake news story was put up, hence the ridiculous comments about "far-right" people and "millenial news source"

Iam not sure how you can say that. I tried archiving the posts on their site myself and show that they don't work sometimes and other times only the text is captured.
There are also other links I posted proving that if you look at something from July 3rd that we archived, it does not load. If you go to the actual post on their site form July 3rd(from using the arhicved link to the original link) it works. That is proof right there that something is happening, whether or not they were hacked I don't know and haven't seen at the time I posted this.
I was not aware of them being hacked. Would you be able to send me a link? I didnt see amything about that when I originally posted this, my apologies if this post is incorrect in some regard.

Hmm...well I guess I stand corrected. I apologize for my reply but wow I can't believe Vice would actually do that! Its kind of ridiculous how they talk about journalistic integrity and ethics at the same time that they are saying they are removing all accountability for false news in the past. On top of that CNN is now blackmailing people who create MEME's? This is insane!! These leftist news agencies are really shooting themselves in the foot with their actions. Why would VICE target and insult those on the "right" while at the same time not retracting articles and instead going back and selectively editing them after the damage is done with no public statement? Its a freaking show on HBO. This is insane! I think the lesson to be learned is don't trust ANY Mainstream Media outlets because they are all about the initial impact, like how 17 US Intel agencies said Trump and Russian collusion and now they say only four meanwhile one of those isn't even an Intel agency so it's actually three at best and at least one of those has already walked it entirely back. What a sad state of affairs. The reason for the Vice Twitter comment was because is was apparently on 4Chan two hours before it was on Twitter but I guess its all up in the air. I just can't believe either story. That CNN would blackmail a Reddit meme maker and that they will dox him and his family if they don't have him beg them for forgiveness. Is that what news organizations do or does that sound more like the CIA? I think CIA. I think 4chan should dox the f*k out of every CNN and Vice editor out there for their ridiculously biased and fake news and now basically terrorist tactics of threatening to release a citizens personal information to the public so they can be threatened or hurt because they made a silly MEME on 4chan. That was the most banal meme I have ever even seen. Oh boy Vice is going to get indexed the hell out of now and CNN Memes are going to blow up!!! On Twitter #CNNblackmail is trending. What a bunch of horse crap. The media is so ridiculous they need to be destroyed! But anyhow I apologize it was just such a ridiculous post it was really hard to think it was real. What a bad move. Did they think July 4th was April Fools Day? I am still shaming my head at how that got past the PR department thinking these were good moves. CNN threatening a maker of a silly MEME? Oh defintely. I do appreciate your reply, now that Iam looking into it I am having a hard time finding an originaly source to their facebook post. It seems there isn't an archive existing of that particular post, so they either were hacked and deleted it or they just deleted it due to a backlash I guess. Ugh, hate not being able to figure out the truth on these things ya know what Imean! But yeah it does seems even if that post was fake or from some hacker, I am having a hard time archiving their content due to whatever they did to their site. Hmm, yeah it is a tough call to make on what it means now. Wish i could find their original post!!!!
idk exactly but I was watching a pretty reputable source on YouTube and they said that this was debunked and that it wasn't actually a post from VICE. Just figured I would reply so as to not further the fake news that it may be. You can research it yourself but I think if this was real they would not have said so many things that make them look so foolish like how their own material is being used to damage their reputation. That is like saying "we said stuff in the past that isn't true so we are making sure you can't see it so you don't call us shit news". that's is just what I heard from more than one source online. it doesn't smell right for VICE News to come out with this type of post damning their entire credibility and announcing it to everyone. I think whoever did hack the account specifically named all the archiving sites to show people that you can always go back and see what websites have had so networks like CNN can't simply erase them and post an editors note and deleting the article that was originally posted. but yeah when I first saw this yesterday I was like "What?! VICE really admitted that they were basically lying to everyone and trying to cover up what they had written and that people on the far-right are using their own words against them? that's ridiculous and way too obvious". who knows but there is a lot on YouTube about it if you wanted to check it out. I guess its fake news about fake news about fake news. all the more important to look into it before posting because I had already thought about making a post about this very topic yesterday but I am pretty sure it was just simply click-bait if they didn't get hacked. I know exactly how much to value their content. However, I'd have to install a printer next to my flush toilet to use it in the way it merited, and I prefer softer material for the purpose.
Yup! they think that by disabling archives it makes them more credible... Because in their mind they want the ability to go back and edit something so they are not wrong... Gotta love it!
