DISCORD SERVERS THAT MAKE ME A BETTER STEEMIAN

in #promo-steem6 years ago

As a newbie on steemit, you are encouraged mostly to download the discord app and come on to the different servers that abound. Some of you have never really asked why? What is this discord app? What is the benefit of this discord app to your account especially a new account that has little or no following?

You see Steemit is all about community, so they say. It is all about interaction, connecting, making friends, sharing, giving and all those fluffy, tingling good feeling stuff but you can’t get all that on the platform itself. Not all of these things, I mentioned above can be achieved on the comment section of a post. I will not tell you what I ate last night on a comment because though the comment section is where the interaction and connection mostly starts, it is limited by the fact that you and I cannot carry on a conversation on either my or your post.

The discord app, is an app that is meant to bridge the gap between steemit users by creating an atmosphere that is more intimate and relaxed. It is an app that serves as the cafeteria for the users of the steemit platform. On the different servers on the discord app, you will come across all the different steemians who you will not see on the steemit platform itself. Some, while active and central to the progress of a server on discord, have not posted a single post on Steemit in weeks or months.

BENEFIT OF THE DISCORD APP TO A NEWBIE

  • Well for one, you have direct access to the people who sit at the top of the ladder on this platform. I mean whales, dolphins, orcas as well as witnesses. These people have wealth of information and contact to share. You can ask them questions, you can get to know them better as well as learn more about their projects and activities.

  • You get access to workshops and post feedbacks which would help you grow your writing and posting skills exponentially. There are steemians on servers who seek people like you with the intention to teach and/or help you achieve your potential. You will find many of them on the discord app.

  • You will be able to interact and exchange ideas with steemians who create content in a niche that you also create content in. In this way, you can get first hand information on how the person grows his or her account and makes posts that generate the kind of traffic you want for your own posts.

  • You will have access to curation shows, which are a popular medium through which you can present the idea behind your post and garner the attention of your community and in so doing get traffic that you normally do not get on your post. It is also a good way to make new friends.

  • You will have front row seats on shows where issues that concern the growth of the Steemit platform is being discussed and you will be able to contribute to such discussions if you do have something to say.

  • You will be able to learn new skills and even transact business on the server which may or may not have anything to do with Steemit. There are coders, web designers, writers, graphic designers, musicians, artists, etc, who are willing to help you with whatever projects you have ongoing for a certain amount of steem backed dollars or steem. Some would even do it for free.

  • You get to make friends. Chat with intelligent and smart people, people willing to learn and to teach and people willing to help.

  • You get to use the ginabot notification service which is an essential tool for most steemians to keep up with the content of the accounts they follow. The service not only gives notifications on new posts by the accounts you follow but also gives you notifications on activity on your own account such as transfers to and from your wallet, mentions in other posts, follows and unfollows etc.

You can see that discord is a vital part of the steemit ecosystem and some of what you see on Steemit are proofs of what was done behind the scene on discord servers.

When I joined steemit, I was introduced to different discord servers. Some of the servers kicked me out while for some I kicked myself out and there are those that I am still with till date. For those that I left, it was not because they had nothing to offer, no. it was more about their objectives not being in line with my needs. So a server that might not work for me, will make so much sense for you and vice-versa.

Among all the servers that I belong to, that I visit as regularly as I can, there are a few whose importance in my growth and development cannot be overemphasized. These servers have, in one way or the other, either through their curation shows, workshops, or kind membership, etc been able to play a role in my growth and development on this platform. It would be remiss of me if I do not share them with you.

AWESOME SERVERS ON DISCORD

The awesome servers on the discord app, as far as I am concerned and in no particular order are;

I. PROMO-MENTORS:

This server's admin is @futurethinker. It is one of the servers which I know is devoted to helping newbies on writing, using the markdown codes, editing and creating quality content. The server focuses on this above all else.

When I joined, it had no post-promotion channel (where we all go to dump links and hope someone will upvote). Presently, it has a post sharing channel but you still have to participate in post feedback/mentorship before you get permission to join them.

The mentors on this server are mostly curators for either @curie or @ocd, so they also watch for quality posts to curate. It is a win win for any member of the server.

The server also does a curation show once a week, where you are encouraged to talk about your post, share your inspiration and possibly get upvoted by the community account. The show is on the voice channel which means that you would need to speak. This has helped me develop my confidence in speaking with people. It would help you too.

The server has channels for both English speaking and Spanish speaking members so interaction can be comfortable and productive.

The server presently posts a newsletter which looks at members who are contributing ideas, projects and so on to steemit in particular and to the steem blockchain in general.

It has helped me along a great deal on Steemit. You can join the server here.

II. AIRHAWK-PROJECT:

This was the first server I joined when I entered Steemit. In fact, I joined their group on telegram before they migrated to discord and it has been awesome. @airhawk-project server admin is @dreamchasser but the moderator who runs the server is @samest. The server is mostly filled with Nigerians and it offers a whole variety of services to its members.

Members who are Nigerians can exchange their sbd and steem for fiat currency like the Nigerian naira on the server managed exchange. It can be done either on the exchange channel on the server, the airhawk-exchange on telegram or on the airhawk-exchange website. It is safe and secure. I have used it several times.

The server also organizes different shows for members which include the whaleshares shout out as well as shout out post, crypto talk, talk shows, etc. Some are curation shows that encourage members to interact, talk about their posts and win gifts and community upvotes.

@itoroarchibong is the moderator that caters to newbies, so be sure to contact her when you joined the server.

The server also maintains a bank for those who are interested in saving their sbd or steem. A depositor to @bankplethora gets 2.5% weekly or 12% monthly interest paid into his or her steemit wallet in the duration of the savings.

The server also carries out tutorials for newbies both on how to write well and post well and on the crypto world in general. If you are one who loves to do airdrops with the hope that one of these coins will moon, then airhawk-project has a whole channel dedicated to just that. Guests from different projects in the cryptoworld come to the server to give talks on their project and benefits once in a while, so there's so much to learn.

III. ISLE OF WRITE:

As the name implies, the @isleofwrite server is a centre of creative writers but it also caters to the needs of other creatives. Some of the best editors and critics can be found on this server. They offer writing workshop and post feedback to members who are interested.

The admins for this server are @JustJess (jrhughes), @geke, @LenaDr, @lakhi (Pegasusphysics), @sunravelme, @inna (author of things). These steemians are set to enable anyone willing to learn, grasp the rudiments as well as the nuances of writing.

The server encourages those who are into writing to find reason to write with the daily freewrite challenge hosted by @mariannewest. If you do not know what to write on, just go to @mariannewest’s blog and you will see the day’s freewrite prompt. With that, you can create a post.

It also offer proofreading and editing services for both your steemit post as well as for books you aim to have published outside steemit. There are also workshops for songwriters, artists, scriptwriter, poets and more.

The moderator, @thunder-god, known as @geekorner on steemit is a valuable resource if you are into poetry or fiction. He has helped me along on my writing journey.

The server also curate quality posts every week and active members noted for the quality of their posts get upvote from the community account.

Thank you for choosing us to manage and grow your fund. Keep Steeming!

Thank you for this informative post. I have resteemed it as well for future reference, in case someone asks me what's a Discord app. I can just redirect them to your link, if that's all right.

Anyway, I absolutely love the Discord. It's great to connect with different people and the groups have actually helped me grow as a Steemian.

Sure @evlachsblog, you can Resteem. Yes discord has helped me achieved the same too.

One point is: Discovering the discord server that is full of great people with information.
Another point isPosition yourself and is a better person on that server

It takes actions to learn no matter where you belong. @warpedpoetic this server benefit you because you position yourself right and make good use of the information gathered.

Well done buddy and continue clearing the ground. Keep steeming.

I remain myself Engr. Samest

Thank you @samest. I will definitely include your points in the second part of this post.

One has to truly implement what one has learnt for it to be of value.

Your post has been upvoted by the @steemiansarens. Our goal is to support minnows and help them grow. You can join our discord server here Whastapp here.. You can also support us by either contributing steem or delegating SP to us

Indeed an excellent one! Totally agreed that discord servers like chill lounge for steemians and at the same time I can connect directly to VIPs :D

Yeah, you get to meet with the big names and listen to the ideas that sit behind the activities on steemit. It is just awesome

I enjoyed it tooo, may was in @steemschools I learn how run Steemit business, Discord is cool thanks for sharing

You are welcome.

Congratulations! Your post has been selected as a daily Steemit truffle! It is listed on rank 13 of all contributions awarded today. You can find the TOP DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS HERE.

I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 24 SBD worth and should receive 83 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.

Totally agrees with you and I have been able to join a few new ones from reading your post, thanks for sharing this to the community.

You are welcome. I will share some more later on. I am glad I was able to be of help.

Thank you so much for mentioning the freewrite!! And you are so right - there are some who have left Steemit behind and are mostly on Discord now.

yeah that is true @mariannewest. I am discovering more and more talented people who rarely post on steemit but are always on discord. It's a great place to be as a steemian.

I wish I had more energy, and time, they look like great places to check out, but I fear adding more to my plate lest I burst at the seems. It took awhile to narrow down from the 14 I was following, Which has crept doubled again since paring back to 4. To much good content, I just do not understand why I still keep seeing people whine about the lack of good content on steemit. I guess it is because no one is force feeding them, to keep them dumb and happy with "here is what we think is good content and you will like it or we will shadowban you". So much content, so little time, so few votes allowed.
