STEEMIT'S ROLE IN NIGERIA'S PATH TO RECOVERY

in #promo-steem7 years ago (edited)

Everyone on this platform is quite familiar with a thing or two about steemit, but not everyone is familiar with the state of the Nigerian economy presently

On the news and social media, we are told that, the Nigeria economy is the best in Africa. But as at 2015/2016, the country plunged deep into recession , with its adverse effect on different sectors of the economy. There was and still is wide spread hardship in the land, people were being laid off work, increasing the unemployment rate, increase inflation rate, decrease in the standard of living of the people

There was nationwide protest by Labour union who were agitating for increase in wages, but this wasn't realised.
This continued to linger on, taking us to 2017 when it was announced officially , that the country is out of recession, given the indexes, but there was no visible change in the living standard of the people to prove this statement true.

We were told that the process of recovery is going to be gradual, more than a year have passed now, still no change.
Unemployment rate is still rising, from 14.2%to 18.8% (according to the National Bureau of Statistics), there is increase in the pump price of fuel, resulting in increase in cost of transportation. Small businesses are finding it difficult to thrive, despite the fact that the government keeps hammering on entrepreneurship as a way out, but this businesses requires capital as start up and the enabling environment to thrive. But they have been deluded of this.
That brings us back to our topic, how can steemit play a role in helping our country Nigeria in its part to recovery?
Before I joined steemit, I spend 4 to 6hours a day on social media networks, entertaining myself, but to get that entertainment, you have to subscribe for data, which may cost you about #1000-#2000 (approx. $5/6), you enjoy the entertainment, but get nothing in return. But when I joined the steemit community, I redirected my effort to a more profitable end, I still spend about the same hours online, but at the end of the day, I get paid for time spent, no matter how small.
In Nigeria, persons within the ages of 18-45yrs old have access to smartphones, with which they subscribe for data monthly, they could spend more time on the steemit network, and see ways they could better themselves. Better still, those having small businesses , can reinvest money made from steemit in their business to expand it. Others can augment their jobs with steemit, as a side "hustle" thereby improving their living condition. This can help reduce the rate of unemployment in the country
Students in the university can join the steemit community to help themselves on campus, to off set some expenses, instead of relying solely on their parents.
Steemit is an avenue for youths to put their intellect at work.
When the teaming number of youths are employed or engaged in something profitable, it will help curb the rate of crime, because they will have something that keeps them busy and that generate income for them, then, they won't think of crime. When you have a genuine and legitimate business doing online, you focus will be far away from cybercrime
We all have a role to play, to accomplish the above- we all have to keep spreading the Gospel of Steemit
How about telling somebody today, and that person, tells another person, and it goes on and on. In doing so, we will be achieving two goals-helping our country recover from recession and at the same time expanding the Steemit community
Let's all take up the challenge, tell someone everyday about steemit, you wouldn't know, you might just be pulling someone out of poverty, to a better living condition

More Nigerians are joining Steemit daily.
I enjoy your post.

It's good to know that steemit is helpful in your country. I live in Colombia, but people know very little about this platform. However, in our neighbour country of Venezuela a lot of people use steemit. As you say, is a good option to earn some revenue.
