Let's Promote Steem.jpg

This is a very timely contest as I was just about to embark upon a series of posts to dive into how we can promote Steem and increase demand for it. My strong belief is that we need to promote Steem to a wider audience, away from just the blogging model alone.

Steem's Potential

Steem is fee-less and transactions are cleared almost instantly. It is also decentralized and technically, anyone can run a node should they so desire. This provides a good foundation for developers to build upon - payment applications, video game micro-transactions etc. which I will elaborate on.

Crypto Education

Steemit was my entry into the world of crypto back in 2017. I'm by no means an expert but the education i've gained here has helped me gain an understanding of the different sorts of technologies involved and help me invest in a number of different crypto projects.

The Steemit Crypto Academy is a great step towards educating more users about crypto. To make it more user-friendly, I think the User Interface needs to be modified so that posts can be 'sticki-ed' and ordered sequentially.

Tied to this, I believe we should focus some of our promotion on Quora, where there are over 500,000 users interested in crypto and would like to learn more. Unlike Twitter where posts have a short lifespan, Quora questions and answers live for a long time and also feature high on Google's search results.

MMORPGS

It's not cheap to run a MMORPG server especially the ones with thousands of players on them. I'm talking about games like Ultima Online, Ragnarok and even Mincraft.

Not only do you have to pay for the hardware and networking costs, there are also the costs of the administrators and gamemasters to take care of, unless you expect them to work for free.

This is why many private run servers do not last long. Steem could be an ideal platform to build player-run MMORPG infrastructure on. Server costs and GM/Admin costs could be paid out with Steem earnings from the community.

In addition, Steem would be ideal to build a trading platform on for in-game items. There are 0 fees, so buying and selling swords in Ultima Online for a couple of dollars would make sense.

There are a number of popular forums and also Reddit dedicated to the popular player-run servers and this would be a good avenue to target potential players and new joiners to Steem.

Sports Betting

According to Statista, the global sports betting industry has a market size of 203 billion dollars as of 2020. That makes it even worth more than Ethereum at this point. Huge!

A well-run sports bookie running on Steem would attract a lot of sports bettors to the platform as the present crypto options all leave something to desire - whether it is privacy, lack of live betting, poor odds, not enough bettors, lack of live-chat. Something is always missing in their offering.

That's why I was a big proponent of SteemBet, although the project seems to be a little stagnant with the Live odds not being published.

If the bugs are ironed out, Reddit, Twitter and some of the bookie forums have a lot of users who are looking for something better than what is currently out there on the market. Huge potential for Steem to tap into.

In Summary

My 3 ideas for promoting Steem that we could focus on are:

  1. Crypto education
  2. MMORPGs
  3. Sports Betting

I believe that if we focus on these three areas and bring new users from diverse sources, the value of Steem could increase well above $1.
