Why should you NOT spend too much on Facebook?

I was in a bus when I overheard two elementary pupils talking about their online crushes. I did not mean to listen to their conversation as I am not a natural eavesdropper, really. They were giggling over their crushes' holiday post at the beach I presume. These kids were I think 8 or 9 years old. And they were even bragging about each other's freebies from one of the providers of telecommunication services in the country. Then suddenly I felt the urge to make a point about how we should limit ourselves to Facebook and even other social media platforms.

No offense meant, really. Facebook has helped millions of people in finding their long lost family members, pen-pals and even the love of their lives. But how about considering moderation?

Gat Jose Rizal once said, "Ang kabataan ay ang pag-asa ng bayan." Do we still see the same appreciation our National Hero had seen for the youth? Do we still exert effort to never fail him? You? Us? Are we still the hope of our beloved nation? Or are we slowly lost in the vast network of the internet?

According to the statistics done by Brandongaille.com last year,

"More than 350 million people around the world are believed to meet the clinical definition of an addiction because of their Facebook habits."

Isn't that alarming? That even a large number of kids I know from my town have active Facebook profiles than I do. They post once in a while and watch even the stupidest viral videos. How about learning abacus, braille system, and sign languages during the curious years of elementary? How about trying to sleep for an hour in the afternoon to get the permit to play with the neighbors and cousins? How about learning all the traditional pinoy games? Will all of these be gone just because we allow ourselves and our kids to spend too much time on Facebook?

If that doesn't move you then I'm gonna give you at least three (3) reasons to stop or minimize Facebook usage.

1. Too much toxic people!

Source

Do you have those friends in your list who post almost everything that's happening in their lives? Like,

"Ooh! This salad is so refreshing. I could no longer be bluer than blue anymore."

"If my crush likes this post then I'm gonna give ya'll a surprise."

" #citylife #mangosquare #karmaisabitch #sorrynotsorry "

That and many more. I get it, we do what we want in our profile in any way we like it because we don't care who reads it anyway. If so, then why'd you have thousands of friends in which 50% of them are completely strangers to you? Well, most of us also post our problems in an MMK-worthy length. Now that thousands have seen that post, my question is: does it solve anything? Facebook is just too much to hold all the toxins!

I bet, you wouldn't want to imagine the future with all these toxins absorbed by our kids nowadays. Hmmm.

2. YES to Facebook and LATER to Study

Source

This isn't true to everybody, tho. Because instead of LATER, they'd rather say NEXT TIME. Worse! The 5-minute guilty pleasure of checking your ex's new status now became almost eternity of stalking and heartbreaking! Addiction, isn't it? Not just the studies were compromised but many more. We tend to just cancel petty errands just to stalk, rant and post. We forget to be more present! In an office, we leave comments and replies to our office mates' status when in fact she's just across your table. Have we lost the ability to talk and have a decent conversation with each other? That's a disaster and if you don't agree with me then would you like to see a less engaged youth that holds the future? I don't think so.

3. Earning ZERO penny!

Source

We update our profiles every once in a while, post our emotions A.T.M. (at the moment) , and do the routine of stalking and ranting but leaving our wallets empty! In short, we're practicing how to be useless! Here's the thing, this isn't true to all social media platforms." One good news is that blogging through steemit.com earns you a couple of bucks! This ain't a joke and a scam! You can ask a couple of successful bloggers like @smaeunabs, @jassennessaj, @thegaillery, @kimyabnez26, @legendarryll, @reewritesthings, @themanualbot, @indayclara and many more. They can give you heartfelt testimonies of the success they've been experiencing with steemit.com which they can even teach to so many kids now.

And I do believe our new generation is truly gifted with wit full of fun. Why not divert it to something more real and productive?

Still not so convinced? Wait! As I'll be posting my steemit journey to inspire you non-steemians, newbies (I'm a newbie but 4 months is already a considerable experience. hehehe), and especially the steemians who seem to have lost the fire.

Thanks a lot for reading it till the end. This has been @nikkabomb saying, "Every holiday is an endless battle between rest and internet. So, good luck fellas."
