Why do I keep having to sign in on Steemit to upvote something?

Your browser should remember your login credentials but it seems it doesn’t for some reason.

But what you should really do is stop inserting any of your private keys to any forms on the web when you’re using Steem apps. I recommend that you use Steem Keychain (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/steem-keychain/lkcjlnjfpbikmcmbachjpdbijejflpcm) instead. It’s a browser add-on created by @yabapmatt (Matt Rosen). Follow the link and install it from Chrome Web Store.

Nowadays, most Steem apps are integrated with Steem Keychain. What that means is that when such an app wants to post a transaction to the blockchain, it does not do it by itself with a private key given to it by you. Instead it asks Steem Keychain to do it on its behalf by calling a function in the library of code installed on your local browser that the add-on is. The key issue here is that none of your private keys will ever be exposed to any program other than Steem Keychain. Also, because the transactions are signed by a browser add-on on your local browser instead of code downloaded from a website each time, there is no risk of that website (such as SteemConnect when used via the web) being hacked and sending malicious code by end users’ browsers. By the way, you can use SteemConnect locally, too, but that’s for another article.
