UNDERSTANDING CURATION REWARDS AND STEEM POWER

• In this post we'll look at the relationship between curation rewards and steem power and how to go about your voting power. Several posts have been made already about curation rewards, steem, steem power and voting power but most of it is complicated for a newbie or an amateur in Steemit. In this post, curation rewards and steem power will be explained in a "lame man's term".

• When we post an article and get upvotes, we notice the rewards we get after seven days is not the exact amount we saw on the post and we get worried and ask questions like is it normal that Steemit takes some part of payout as homage or something? Well it's not so. I'll explain how this works and you won't need to be worried again.
• I'll start by explaining what curation rewards are. Curation rewards are rewards organized and maintained which are given out to those who upvoted your post. If you notice, your rewards are set to 50/50 default. That is to say you get 75% of your rewards, no objections. The other 25% is given as curation to your upvoters and those who commented. Then your 75% reward is divided into 50/50. The first half for your steem dollar and the second half for your steem power. If your rewards are set to power up 100% then this means that all your 75% rewards fall under your steem power. Your steem power is the power on your vote to influence another steemian's post.
• Knowing this, we can finally see the importance of upvoting someone's else's post. Now voting every post doesn't mean you'll definitely get rewarded, the CURATION SYSTEM works in a more complicated manner. On every post, the author gets curation rewards for the first 30 minutes of that post so any hurried upvote won't really count. Then again voting too late has its downside because curation rewards may be shared to just the first 5 upvoters. So timing is of essence but how can one possibly vote at the right time. So people tend to bring solutions like a software for calculating the precise time to vote in order to be part of the curation rewards. Well the truth is CURATION REWARDS are more complicated than we think and it is advisable be upvote a post whenever you feel like. It's preferable not to concern ourselves too much with curation rewards and just go with the flow.
• Another factor we should consider is our steem power cause it is essential in promoting our steem community. Your steem power gives some sort of control over the Steemit network and subsequently it enriches your voting power. With your voting power you can create your own community of steemians. With a huge voting power, you can influence other steemians in your community your upvote and in return, you can get comments and upvotes and followers thereby increasing your fame and readers. If you can recall from my last post, fame is a key factor to success in steemit so use your steem power to maximum capacity.
