Easy Explained - How Rewards are Calculated on the Steem Blockchain and What Does the $ Sign Means on the Post

Hi Steemians,

This is Something I have been a bit confused for some time, and finaly by reading a great explanation by @dragosroua in the site http://steem.supply/rewards I found a clear answer.
[The numbers and calculations below are not exact because there are other factors on the algorythm, but they will give a close idea of how payouts work]

How Rewards are Calculated on the Steem Blockchain and What Does the $ Sign Means on the Post.jpg

What confuses most of us is what is the "$" sign displayed near the rewards of every post by Steemit, eSteem, busy.org and others.

The "$" sign:

1- Is not USD Dollars.
2- Not an SBD.
3- It's a Steem Token Unit (or STU).
This is a different Unit than SBD and STEEM currencies, and we can consider it as a value of storage in the STEEM blockchain. My interpretation is that before it becomes liquid (when its stored on the steem blockchain), the investment is called "vests".

Rewards on the posts expressed in "$" sign mean STU.

To explain it, I will use the example @dragosroua shows with $100 (but use other prices for Steem and SBD)

  1. 25% goes for curators (people who upvote your post)
    This is $25 (STU)

  2. 75% remaining is for the author (the person who made the post)
    This is $75 (STU)

This $75 STU is split 50% / 50%

One of the 50% is payed in SBD
This is $37.50 SBD

The other 50% is $37.50 USD payed in SP (at the current value of the internal Steemit feed price of Steem)
So if the price of Steem is $3 at the time of payout, we are getting 12.5 SP
($37.50 USD divided by $3 Steem price)

We receive half as SBD, and half as USD value coverted to SP, (at the current price of SP in USD).

So, with the $100 payout on a post we get:

  • 37.50 SBD
  • 12.50 SP (with the price of Steem at $3 at the time of payout)

In a FIAT (USD) conversion, a $100 STU would give us:
(With hipotethical current prices of STEEM = $3, SBD = $4)

37,5 SBD x 4 = 150 USD
12,50 SP x 3 = 37.50 USD
Total = 187.50 USD

Thanks for this great explanation @dragosroua !

Regards, @gold84

A special THUMBS UP to your this post! :)

thank you, this post has information so important. I Didn´t know about this cryptocurrency but thanks to you now I know.

so per this example if the original post was worth $100 then when steem prices are down like right now we are actually getting more steem power right now when steem is $2.34 as opposed to a couple weeks ago when steem was around$4.00. Correct?
