Places to visit in Dobrogea: Enisala Citadel, Eraclea or Herkleia
Every year I go to my grandparents in Dobrogea and sometimes we go to visit different places. Now I will tell you about the Enisala Citadel or Eraclea.
Places to visit in Dobrogea: Enisala Citadel, Eraclea or Herkleia
It is an old town since the time of Mircea the Elder, it was used as the fortress to appear
until it was conquered by the Turks.
The fortress is built on a limestone hill and is a good position from where you can see the largest lake in Romania, Lake Razim and Babadag Lake.
The fortress was rebuilt in the 12th and 14th centuries. Documentary attestation dates back to the sixth century.
Fortresses with similar towers are also found in Bulgaria and Turkey.
The fortress was left in the sixteenth century by the Turks because it no longer complied with the supervision requirements.
Today the fortress is a ruin and tries to consolidate the walls to be a point to visit by tourists.
The road up there is very good, it can be reached from Baia or Babadag.

Closer
Here I wanted to take a picture of the tower.
The areas with the more discolored stone above are seen as having been rebuilt.
At the end you can buy souvenirs as a reminder.
There is a fee to pay at the entrance.
All the information here is from local sources and told by those in the area.
I hope you enjoyed it and I wish you a nice day.
Oare cata istorie se ascunde intre acele ziduri...
Niciodată nu se va ști toată istoria dintre acele zile.
Love it!

Did the locals mention anything about having vipers in the area? Just curious. When I got there in February it was deserted. No tickets, no souvenirs, just a cold biting wind.
In February there is no problem with snakes.
In the summer you can find snakes and vipers, go out in the sun. In summer I spend a few weeks in Dobrogea at my grandparents and I saw vipers.
