This post will be about the principles of the project and also about voting on a new name because although DemosSteem is alright it sounds like demo which suggests its a demo of the blockchain Steem, which it definitely isn't.

Key principles:

• Improve democracy and balance
• Decentralize the decision making process, allow for any user to more easily effect the direction of the blockchain
• Give everyone constant updates from accounts voted on by the community
• Hold witnesses to account - Clearer visibility to what they support
• Uphold and prevent abuse of the system through accountability

How we will achieve this:

To create an application or tool to allow for greater democracy and equality to be seen on issues and suggestions for the Steem blockchain.

This means we will be creating a ranking system based on equal voting. Everyone who meets the requirements will have the same amount of points they can upvote a post by. From this we hope to have a system where the problems, solutions and improvements to the blockchain will be more visible, as currently the only way the majority of Steemians get alerted to proposed changes is through Steemit, discord or the trending page which is dominated by bid bots.

We will have our own point system which will allow for abuse to be stopped or severely limited, at the moment we will have 4 categories:

• Total votes = Popular
• Discussed = most comments
• Top = total support * total votes
• New = Newest posts

These could change and are not set in stone, but my opinion is that the homepage or category that is default will be "newest", to allow for a greater visibility to some great posts and then rocket them into the other categories.

The point system will give a user a daily amount they can spend, for example each user gets 200 points. They then can upvote a post or downvote a post by a maximum of 10, so you have a scale of approval from -10 to + 10. This will give us an average support (as mentioned in the category system) from the users and would be an important tool to see how much the community wants this change or not.

Advantages also include the fact this point system gives us the ability to keep upvoting a post or downvoting one after a week which is vitally important to allow for all the available users to have their say and vote as well as giving people the chance to change their mind. Plus if a post brings up a hardfork which could have huge changes this needs to be considered for a long time and gather a large consensus.

Each post will have a percentage calculator to work out the total support out of the possible accounts that could have voted.

Our announcement system:

As mentioned in my one of the key principles, getting the news about changes & the direction of the blockchain is vitally important, so I thought of a system where the people choose which accounts to fetch news from, so we could make and pin a post asking for a collection to create a shortlist. Then we could narrow it down to the top 10 and have automatic retrieval of their posts that have our app's tag in it, this would be put in a specific area of the app and would make the whole process of finding news easier and more democratic.

The specifics are yet to be decided, but the principles will stay the same.

How we will hold the witnesses to account

I would just like to state I am not attacking the witnesses work here, I think they do amazing things for the community and are the pillars. But as these are elected by the community to essentially run the blockchain they also have to have a level of transparency to the people who voted for them. So what I decided was to make on every post a witnesses support calculator and a list of witnesses that support or don't support certain ideas, this means that if you have given a witnesses support but he goes against a certain idea that you feel passionately about then you can retract your vote, it also works the other way around. This system will hopefully encourage Witnesses to make counter posts and gather support for ideas they like creating a more active Witnesses team.

It also allows for precedents to be set when enough Witnesses support a change to implement that as well as being able to see the other Steemians opinions and general consensus before making a change.

Uphold ethics and prevent abuse:

This ties into my previous point about Witnesses as in the future more and more businesses that join Steem will likely want to become Witnesses, now these businesses either witnesses or not could bring problems such as abuse of the system and destroying the ethics that the community sets. Our system should be able to combat that and prevent businesses from making changes to their policy or even the blockchain (if they are a Witness) that will hurt the community. This will be done through simply businesses using this system as a way to gauge support for operation changes and it also works by the community using this system to show dislike/support for the changes. If a business is either rejected by the community then they will have to stop pushing for what is disliked or change the way they operate. Because a businesses wouldn't want to lose its customers.

Although this is set on convention, it gives the people the tools to prevent and show dislike/like towards changes and will hopefully give us a better chance of preventing companies from dominating us.
