Building The Man Cave

The Dog House

Here in the north of the UK, we have a saying when you are in trouble with your partner. We refer to it as being in the dog house. I know this place very well. In fact I’m there often, especially when I have been out for a few cheeky drinks with my mates. One Pacific friend always seems to get me in trouble and we are both often in the dog house together but one night, after one or two alcoholic beverages we decided that we will build our own man cave. A place where we can go and get away from our nagging partners and and get absolutely shit faced.
Although most of our drunken nonsense is really just that ( nonsense ) this idea seemed to stick and the very next day, a flat bed truck arrived at our home and dropped of the very first prices of wood.

Suddenly! it was real

No Idea What We Are Doing

Apart from known what a hammer and nail is for, Between is we have no idea how to build anything. (Although we both act as we are experts). This was not going to stop us as the more we spoke about what having our own man cave would be like, the more determined we become. So after deciding how big we wanted it to be, we started laying the foundations.
True to my nature I did not stop not even to take a picture but by the end of day one we had a foundation and base frame built.

The days ticked by and the progress was getting real, even our partners where starting to get worried that we might even pull this off and by the end of the 3rd day, the man cave started to build up.

Their was no turning back now!
We where running out of nice weather and needed to start moving fast to protect the man cave from the winter months.
So we went double time. As tedious as the early mornings and late nights where getting, we both knew that it would be worth all the hard work in the end.

The Roof 😒

This was the most painful and tedious part of all.
Don’t forget! We have no idea what we are doing and the roof the most was the most important part to get right.
After building the frame, we stopped for lunch and my stupid friend decided that the 2x2 frame looked strong enough to hang his 14 stone body from and so jumped up and tried to hang from the beam. Well! Of course it snapped.

So that whole mornings work was now a waste and dinner would have to wait.
Eventually though we had a roof and felted it to protect against the wet weather.

With a lick of paint and a free PVC door we found by a skip, This is how the man cave looks to this day. We put insulation on the inside of the walls to keep us warm and cosy while we get drunk and I even sketched out some bar designs in which my friend loved.

But what we really needed was a name!
And so after another crate lager and some more talking bollocks, We came up with the best name possible...

The Dog House

More updates on the dog house soon.
