SOCIALIZATION
Socialization is a continuous process whereby an individual acquire an acceptable way of behavior in the society i.e what the society takes as normal forms or ways of behaving and interacting.
Socialization cannot come to an end until we die, it is a highly complex and continuous process. it is through socialization we learn about norms, ideologies and our social and cultural continuity are achieved. socialization start from birth and end at death.
Socialization prepare us for three main things.
1 . teaching impulse control and developing a conscience
2 . preparing us to perform certain social roles.
3 . Planting shared source of value.
Social isolation
Social isolation happens when people have lack of contact with the society which last for years or decades although it happens in all age but it is common among the elderly. we can say that social isolation is the opposite of socialization in some ways.
Positive socialization
Positive socialization is the type of social learning that we learn with fun, pleasure, and excitement mainly through a act of reward e.g when our parent always get us a gift for doing well in school we tend to always concentrate in class so that we can get good grades and in turn get a gift from them with this act we are unknowingly growing our love for academics.
Negative Socialization
Negative socialization is the type of socialization that we learn with the use of punishment e.g we learn to avoid going late to school because we are always been flog for coming late.
Important of Socialization
1 . help the people to Know what the society expected from them
2 . it a means by which our norms and custom are transmitted.
3 . makes us function fully as human being
4 . helps to become a social person and attain personality.
5 . helps people function well in the society.
Stages of Socialization
1 . primary stage ÷ happens from birth to adolescent.
2 . secondary stage ÷ happens throughout one lifetime.
In conclusion socialization is the means in which we know how to behave, compose ourselves, do things in an acceptable manner in the society.
Socialization must be with the right people so the positive change in our personality will occur and the goals of socialization, in general, will be achieved.
