"Solar power will change the world."

Why are people so bent on changing the world? Don't they realize that the world changes all by itself? It's call "entropy" or "rot." Solar power changes the world already -- it's called "photosynthesis," "global warming," "summer," or "sunburn."

Don't they realize that "change" can be good or bad, or both in many ways at once? And that what sets Planet Earth apart from, say, empty space, or the surface of Titan, or a black hole, is the delicate balance of forces in homeostasis?

Why do we teach children do want to "change the world?" Don't we realize that the easier way to change a working system, is to break it? Didn't Hitler and Mao change the world? Wouldn't a few well-placed nukes or Skynet change the world quite effectively, if not happily?

Chesterton was right. Progressives really are daft, because they don't even know what they want, but are giddy with desire to get it -- so much so that they forget to get clear pricing before signing the work order.
