MESLEK SEÇİMİ- Profession Selection
Some professions are things that really work. Engineering, for example, doctor, what the public knows. But people don't know they need biology, physics, Chemistry. That's why it's a professional difference between basic sciences and practical sciences. Applied Sciences; Science, engineering, architecture and so on, the professions that people interact with directly. They're more popular. Why? Because they think they're directly interacting. Because it's practical.
What do we order in college exams? There's a doctor in the first place, there's law, engineering, etc. What does that set?
We set it up. The highest scores are preferred to these departments, for certain universities. So the popularity is increasing. If someone chooses a high-scoring physician, he chooses Hacettepe Medical, the department with the highest score and the university Hacettepe Medical. Previously, construction engineering was higher than medicine, 10 years passed. Civil engineering was a better science than medicine at the time, and now it's worse? Of course not. These are situations that vary according to demand.
All right, Turkey has the facts, the world has realities, I understand that. But people who have to understand these things. A certain group of biologists will be elected to Cambridge. He's going to Texas. Famous physicists will catch up. People shouldn't come to the point of not choosing these professions because I can't make money.
He loves biology, and he likes it pretty much. He wants to devote his life to biology, but if he doesn't choose not to make money, it's a big waste of brain. Maybe even that guy could get a great reputation for taking the Nobel Prize. After performing his profession in the most beautiful way, he can earn big money.

Bazı meslekler, gerçekten meslek olan şeyler. Mühendislik mesela doktorluk, halkın bildiği şeyler. Ama insanlar biyolojiye, fiziğe, kimyaya her an ihtiyacı olduğunu bilmiyor. Zaten o yüzden temel bilimlerle pratik bilimler arasında mesleki olarak farklılık oluşuyor. Uygulamalı bilimler; doktorluk, mühendislik, mimarlık falan gibi bilimler, insanların doğrudan etkileşime geçtiği meslekler. Daha popülerler. Niye? Çünkü doğrudan etkileşime geçtiklerini düşündükleri için. Pratik olduğu için.
Üniversite sınavlarında neye göre sıralıyoruz tercihlerimizi? En başta doktorluk var, hukuk var, mühendislik var vs. Peki bunu ne belirliyor?
Biz belirliyoruz. En yüksek puanları alanlar bu bölümlere, belli üniversitelere yönelik tercih yapıyorlar. Popülaritesi böylece artıyor. Yüksek puan alan biri doktorluğu seçerse mesela Hacettepe Tıp'ı seçerse en yüksek puana sahip bölüm ve üniversite Hacettepe Tıp oluyor. Önceden inşaat mühendisliği tıptan daha yüksekti, 10 yıl geçti. İnşaat mühendisliği o zamanlar tıptan daha iyi bilim dalıydı da şimdi daha mı kötü? Tabii ki hayır. Bunlar taleplere göre değişen durumlar.
Tamam Türkiye'nin gerçekleri var, dünyanın gerçekleri var. Bunları anlıyorum. Ama şunları anlamalı insanlar. Belli bir grup biyolog Cambridge'e seçilecek. Texas'a gidecek. Ünlü fizikçiler yetişecek. Bu meslekleri para kazanamayacağım diye seçmemek noktasına gelmemeli insanlar.
Adam biyolojiyi seviyor, hem de bayağı seviyor. Hayatını biyolojiye adamak istiyor, ama para kazandırmıyor diye seçmezse, bu büyük bir beyin israfı olur. Hatta belki o adam nobel ödülü alarak büyük bir saygınlık elde edebilir. Mesleğini en güzel şekilde icra ettikten sonra büyük paralar da kazanabilir.
Şunu demek istiyorum. Bir insan hangi mesleği yapmak "istiyorsa" gitsin o mesleğe kendisini adasın. Puanım buraya tutuyor, buraya gideyim. Falanca üniversitenin şehri güzelmiş de oraya gideyim, falanca mesleğin parası iyiymiş de o mesleği yapayım dememeli. Kişi potansiyelini gerçekleştirebileceği mesleği yapmalı.
