What is privacy?

in #privacy7 years ago

Good day everyone! I have been thinking alot today about the concept of privacy. What got me thinking about this was sitting through, and watching a video on youtube regarding the incidents as of late in which there was a large number of anti-LGBT 'protesters'.

I have absolutely no problem with anyone who falls under the LGBT description. In fact I would defend thier rights as strongly as if it were my rights in danger of being taken away. Well ... what really got me to think about this was coming across a video in which the CEO of Google had just left a protest and was cornered by pro-LGBT protesters. They asked him a few questions like 'How do you feel about Nazis?' and 'Why woould you have Nazis at your rally?'. Now anyone who thinks rationaly can see that those questions were asked only to get an enflamitory response for 'click bait' ... either that or to start a firey protest that would turn into a riot. It was obvious that they wanted to fluster the CEO into admitting to what he was being accused of. Now his response was simple, 'I don't like Nazis' and then he fell into thier trap by saying, 'Now I have studyed the Nazis for 30+ years ...' It was at point that I tuned out of the arguments. To be honest, the group with the cameras knew what they were doing and did it ... flawlessly ... well with the exception that if they were going to equate the CEO with Nazis, you don't film it while he is surrounded by MINORITIES! Albeit the minroities were predominently of Indian and Pakistani men, of which most think that the LGBT community should not have ANY rights. If these men had any idea of what was going to happen, they would have had thier phones out videoing the incident, then after all of it was over conduct what is called in China a 'flesh search'. In China when someone does something that causes a mass backlash like showing off wealth online. What happens is that someone will make a case where these people must be SHAMED, then if the masses decide to shame them they will conduct a skin search via search engine and social media where the party(ies) are identified. Once identifed, the part(ies) can lose thier jobs, apartments, and most of all 'Face'.

The reason my post asks the question "What is privacy?" is because of what goes on while one is fighting for ones' rights. On one side you have the protesters, most likley hot about the subject, while on the other side you have the law trying to make sure that peace is kept. This is when privacy has to be thought about, in most cases it has to take as much precedent as the subject of the protest. For decades law enforcement has had officers posted at every protest armed only with a video camera. They use video as a tool in thier arsenal of which they can catch bad guys. The tech times in which we live in, we all have cameras but do not use them, except to post what you ate and where after the roit videos. We have to change the way we think about protests. No longer do we need to make hand made signs, we need to orginaize with designated people who are part of the crowd and use thier phones to record not just the police, but the crowds that your a part of. All too often the people who are protesting don't think about things like that UNTIL someone get hurt or killed and only then do people think about what ifs.

This is where the privacy concern should be though about. Google and other companies have perfected facial recognition to the point where if you enter a photo in the search engine, the reslults will astound you as to the accuracy of these programs. And if I can do that, grandma, uncle Charley, the police, your boss, and your enemies can do it ... most likely better than me. It is the individual that must think about privacy, and unfortuneately, our educational system FAILS our children AND our governments.

The heart of my question is to pose the question to you. If you talk a good game about privacy, ask yourself, 'Who as access to me, my family, my professional life, etc?'

It's time we get ourselves in line when online.

That's my thought of the day. I hope you enjoyed the topic and maybe comment on what you think about the subject of privacy. What suggestions you have and other positivity.

Thank you and have a great day!

Greg
