Your WiFi is Used to Track You

in #privacy5 years ago

“A mobile phone is a tracking device that also makes calls.”

I love my phone, but there are risks to carrying one everywhere, and it’s important we understand them. Hopefully this video helps educate you about some aspects of how your device works, so that you can make smart choices that will give you back some of your privacy.

I look at Snowden and Bunny Huang’s "Introspection engine" that allows you to monitor signals that are going in and out of your phone, provide tips for making your devices more secure, and discuss wifi probe requests that are a huge security threat. Basically: turn off your wifi when you’re not using it.

Yes, everything seems to be used for surveillance nowadays

Very useful information, as far as it goes. However, it neglects that surveillance is far more severe than stated here.

https://www.wired.com/story/146-bugs-preinstalled-android-phones/

These aren't 'bugs'. These are surveillance features for banksters. It is further an incomplete list, ignoring long known surveillance capabilities including hardware backdoors independently capable of bypassing any potential software solution. It is certain that both audio and video are available to bad actors from every phone physically able to take pictures as well as geotracking, content, and financial information. IMHO all information able to be communicated with a phone or computer, whether initiated by the user or not, is susceptible to surveillance.

The failure of any chipset or devices not susceptible to surveillance nominal to utterly compromise every single user without reservation demonstrates the captivity of all institutions in the fields involved, from manufacturing to regulation. Snowden demonstrated how he physically disables onboard audio and replaces it with a mic he can physically disable. Video can be disabled by a piece of tape, which everyone should be doing without fail already.

Frankly, I am amazed at the absolute compliance with ubiquitous and totally compromising surveillance across the industry, given the demand for secure devices that surely exists, particularly in the fields of cryptography and computer security.

Thanks!

No way. The baby needs to be thrown out with the bathwater, in this case.
There's no safe interaction with a "tracking device that also makes calls". The only way to avoid the many (and ever-increasing) dangers they inflict is to never allow them near you.
I've never touched a smart device or even allowed a smart device where I live, ever. I plan to continue this policy, as it has kept me a lot smarter and healthier than my fellow man. Especially when I see him/her constantly saying "I know smart devices and wifi are my own undoing, are causing me to be enslaved, are harmful to my health, and are dumbing me down rapidly, but we're stuck with them, so let's look for ways to reduce the harm!"
Ugh.
Just get your head out of the noose! Before the noose owner decides to tighten it for the last time, which you know is coming.

Why don't you consider uploading your videos to @threespeak? Give it a try.

The question of "Chipping" citizens of the U.S. has been around for a while, now. "Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003" was an earlier (not earliest) iteration of "Chipping", but then came the "Cell Phone" with a rather nice feature called "Location Services" that cannot be turned off in Android. "Why should we fight a losing battle pushing through Chip Technology when everyone is carrying one around their necks?" was the question of Governor Tommy Thompson of Wisconsin. Not only does Android creator (Google) contract with the Federal Government, they made several apps that YOU can use to personally track your friends.
Just like your PC at home, the PTB can, and often do, turn on your phones Camera and listen in while you are not even on a call, just like ALEXA, ECHO among other devices.
@skycorridors, GOOD article,, thanks..

It's hard to keep up with all these security things. I tried avoiding google on my phone downloading Ubuntu but it was not a great success and now you need apps for certain things. Then there's the green side of not purchasing ticket as the can be on you phone, i'm often torn in this respect.

I don't like using Wifi at home but the Ethernet boxes are all in the wrong place and it very expensive to get then moved. Ethernet on the phone what the link to that vid.

Cracking work Naomi as always 💯🐒

Thanks so much for watching :) It is indeed a constant battle!
