Stunning 3DPrinted Objects (part 5) - "Landscape House" the Endless HousesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #printing3d7 years ago (edited)

In 2013 architect and designer JanJaap Ruijssenaars unveiled a very ambitious project to build a "house with no beginning or end". The design of the building is based on the famous Möbius Strip (definition of Möbius Strip) at end of post for those who want to know). JanJaap envisions the purpose for his house with sizes of it's 100 x 8 meter and floorspace of 11.000 square meter to be an public expo building.

The past 4 years JanJaap and his company Universe Architecture was pulling together the partners, companies and tools to realise the project named the "Landscape House".

Although initially not intended to build the Landscape House with a 3d printer, it was determined that the design is most easiest to realise by a 3d printer. Together with Enrico Dini (know as "The Man Who Prints Houses") and his company D-Shape, the project was to be realised. Along the way, Universe Architecture started collaboration with the big Dutch construction company BAM for expertise and realisation, and subsequently also creation of a new printer (departing ways with Enrico).

Of the 3 phases defined in the project, the first 2 phases are concluded by now.

  • Phase 1: City Bench (scaled model 1:15 ; February 2016)
  • Phase 2: 3D Builder (the 3d printer ; June 2016)
  • Phase 3: Realisation (in planning ; near future)

The project phasing above are according to Universe Architecture's own website. An additional phase was added in 2016 to print a 4 meter model, fulfilling the purpose of demonstrating the project to investors and others who are required to make the project a reality.

In my honest opinion, the Landscape House will be a absolute great project and if all the promises becomes reality, certainly a major step forward in constructing 3D printed houses and buildings.

I'm looking very much forward to the start of phase 3! Hope you do as well!

Definition of Möbius strip by brilliant.org:

The Möbius strip, also called the twisted cylinder, is a  one-sided surface with no boundaries. It looks like an infinite loop.  Like a normal loop, an ant crawling along it would never reach an end,  but in a normal loop, an ant could only crawl along either the top or  the bottom.
A Möbius strip has only one side, so an ant crawling along it would wind along both the bottom and the top  in a single stretch. A Möbius strip can be constructed by taking a  strip of paper, giving it a half twist, then joining the ends together.
Möbius strips can be any size and shape, some of which are easily  visualizable in Euclidean space, and others of which are are not easy to  visualize. The topology of Möbius strips make it a rare Euclidean  representation of the infinite, and mathematicians have expanded on this  and generalized it in the form of klein bottles.

Can't keep up with all the articles anymore :) Another interesting 3D one

You see, all you need is patience and writing good stories
