3d Printed Trains. Part 4 - A Locomotive is Born

in #printing-3d8 years ago (edited)

Hey Steem

So as i mentioned in part 3, i needed a new locomotive with all wheels driven to run some power tests.
To be honest i got carried away with the amount of features i designed for it.
So its not even close to be finished.
But it just made its first runs, and i must share.
From idea to a beast :)

Early arragment draft

A better draft

Some solidworks drafts, i can almost see the shape i want, but i struggle with the model for a couple of days.

Its too complicated so i decide to to print the not even half baked part i have, maybe it will help me see what i need there.

Yep.

Few printing hours later i had both halves.

And some time later six new wheels.

Lets try it :)

*Not pictured, the test run on the tight curve,well.. it derailed.
The tracks are made with two turn radiuses , and i really did not expect it to go on the tighter one, i wasn't sure how it will handle the wider turn, and after some wheels position adjustments, it does it well.

Well then.. lets make it interesting.

To be continued...:)

Wow nice power man! the last one is an old locomotive trying to go the opposite way, yeah?

Yea, it thought it could..but it really couldn't :)

That's cool glad I found your post. I will check out your previous posts.

Thank you. good to hear that.

Thanks, you are welcome to follow, there will be more :)
