I get some if my prepping supplies from resale shops
When I find a bargain at a resale shop, the money saved is then used to add to my food storage. Today, I found a stainless steel lower half for a water filter, for a dollar.
It has a nice valve that can be removed for cleaning:
Since I have a stack of stainless steel pots that are only good for boiling water, it was a simple step to pick one that fits just inside the lower unit.
I bought a pair of these ceramic filters to go inside this top pot.
Drilling two holes of proper size, spaced apart, will provide mounting for these filter elements. Three stainless screws in the edges of the top pot, will provide stabilization and keep it from jamming inside the lower unit.
This filter will cost about $25.00; the factory units are $270.00. This means I need to buy an extra $250.00 in deep storage supplies.
This is why I shop at resale shops, when I can. I am not recommending this filter source, it was just handy for me. It seems reasonable, and I only plan to use it if there is radioactive contamination. I love safely saving cash on backup prep gear, a win win situation....
Daily water use on the homestead will be well water that is really good. It effectively is a one mile sand filter tapping Keystone lake.
